Billy Simpson of Otsego, passed away, January 11, 2022 at age 86.
Friends may visit with Billy’s family from 2-6 PM, Saturday, April 9, 2022 at the Otsego VFW Post #3030.
Born October 24, 1935 in Kalkaska, the son of George and Thelma (White) Simpson, Billy moved to Otsego in 1943. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956 in Germany. Billy worked at Allegan County Road Commission, American Aggregates and Winchester Steel over the years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his children and grandchildren play football.
Billy was a life member of the Otsego VFW Post #3030 and served as Chaplain for 15 years. He was very passionate about this position and had great respect for his fellow veterans. Before covid Billy spent his time at local nursing homes keeping fellow veterans company. He enjoyed meeting his retired buddies at local restaurants for coffee every morning when possible.
On September 15, 1956 he married Peggy Town. Together they had 6 children and shared 65 wonderful years.
Surviving are his wife; children, Deb (Larry) Pillars, Tammy Syers, Greg Simpson, Margie Simpson and Chuck (Amy) Simpson; grandchildren, Angie (Pat), Larry Jr., Tom, Bill (Jo Beth), Vanessa, Kayla, Tomasina, Savanna, Alyssa and Gabriel and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Tommy Simpson and grandson, Justin Syers.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place.

Sorry to learn of your loss. Bill was chaplain for so long, now somebody else will need to step in. As I recall he spoke all from memory, nothing on paper. And yes, he was part of the group who gathered for coffee at Harding’s in Otsego to solve the problems of the world. He was always nice to my husband, Jim. From the first moment I met him I was immediately accepted and treated like family and that has never changed . His wonderful , and even his not so wonderful stories will be greatly missed along with his coaching the lions on Sunday loud enough it’s a wonder they didn’t hear him , his fried zucchini and mush-melon (cantaloupe) sharing … I have thousands of great memories from my childhood and being out at the farm house. I am forever grateful to grandpa and grandma and the whole family .
