Virginia L. Vanderveen

Virginia passed away, Thursday, September 28, 2023, in Richland.

She was born January 25, 1936 in Saginaw, the daughter of Edward and Isabel (VanBocxlaer) Kaufmann. As a young woman Virginia worked as a nurse’s aide in Indiana. She also worked at a fish cannery in Alaska and for a short time at Plainwell Schools. Along with her husbands she owned and operated Caldwell Lumber and VanderVeen Excavating.

Virginia was a skilled seamstress and for 65 years enjoyed sewing drapes, upholstery, quilts and clothing. She also liked decorating homes, cooking and travel, especially trips to Mackinaw City, the Upper Peninsula, Florida and 3 trips to Alaska. In 1954 she married Charles Caldwell who passed away in 1981. In 1981 she married Marvin VanderVeen who passed away in 2005.

Surviving are her children, Dixie (Roger) Dalrymple of Plainwell and Sandy Hunt of Utah; 2 grandchildren, Erin Hunt and Megan Dodge; sister, Lorain (Gary) Garno and sister-in-law, Joy Kaufmann.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands; sister, Geraldine Rappley and brother, Joe Kaufmann.

According to her wishes cremation has taken place.

A graveside service will take place at 12:00 P.M., Friday, October 27, 2023 at Green Bower Cemetery in Alamo Township, with Pastor David Ives officiating.

Contributions in memory of Virginia may be made to Oak Grove Bible Church.

The family has good memories of Ginnie I am sure because she always had a good heart and a great smile. She was a good friend to my parents. Cherish the memories.
