Tom had a profound impact on those around him, spending an admirable 32 years caring for patients at the State Hospital in Newberry until his retirement in 1991. After his retirement he worked part time as a well driller for several years. His commitment to helping others was only matched by his pride in serving his country in the U.S. Navy, a testament to his character and dedication.
Tom held a multitude of passions throughout his life. He loved his wife of 62 years and rarely left her side. He loved living in Michigan’s upper peninsula. He found joy in fishing, hunting, and woodworking, crafts that not only showcased his skills but also provided him precious moments to connect with nature and with loved ones. Above all, he treasured spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
For many years Tom was a faithful member of Northstar Baptist Church in McMillan, MI. He was not one to be in the limelight but was happy to serve behind the scenes. Tom's faith played a significant role in his life. The last few years of his life he was a beloved member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Plainwell. He would attend whenever his health would permit. He so loved the music and preaching at the Church.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth, whom he married on September 10, 1962, in St. Johns. Together, they created a family filled with love, which includes their children, Renee McClellan, Becki Brady, Tom (Jennifer) Teed, and Sharon (Steve) Smail. He was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, Tom is survived by three sisters, Ellen Ruth, Ann, and Opal, along with many nieces and nephews.
