Sy Dillion Cassada passed away peacefully at his home in Delton on April 29, 2026. He was born on July 18, 1975, in Kalamazoo, to Larry Cassada and Jerri Bryan.
Sy graduated from Delton Kellogg High School in 1994 and later earned his NIULPE 3rd Class Power Plant Operating Engineer Certificate. He began working at Borgess Pipp Hospital in Plainwell before moving on to Rock Tenn of Battle Creek, where he worked as a power plant operating engineer until his retirement in 2010. He was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 547/324.
Beyond his career, Sy was a man of many interests and passions. A true coffee fanatic, he found joy in the simple pleasure of a perfect brew. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed hiking, snowboarding, skateboarding, water skiing, boating, mushroom hunting and traveling. He was a dedicated Detroit Lions fan and enjoyed watching them play even when losing. He was a strong, informed historian and political advocate. On October 4, 2003, at Wesley Woods Methodist Camp he married Maria Noto who survives. Also surviving are his three children, Elliott, Luca, and Maristella; his parents, Larry Cassada and Jerri (Jeff Cline) Bryan; siblings, Shawna (Jordan) Dobbs and Trever (Bonnie) Ayers, along with many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elliott and Dolores Bryan, Allen Cassada and Betty Ritchie and cousin, Ty Mitchell.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place.
Friends may visit with Sy’s family starting at 4:00 P.M., Friday, May 8, 2026, at Sherwood Gardens in Plainwell, until the time of the memorial service at 6:00 P.M., with David DeVelder officiating.
Contributions in memory of Sy may be directed to the American Cancer Society/">American Cancer Society or to a tree fund in Sy’s name.
