Ronald D. Watson

Otsego

We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Ronald Delbert Watson, 78 years old, on February 18, 2026. Ron was born and raised in Otsego, MI. After graduating from Otsego High School, Ron went to study forestry at Lassen Community College in Susanville, California. He later transferred to Northern Michigan University before coming home to take over the family business when his father had health issues. Ron worked for most of his life as a butcher at the family stores, as well as the Big Top Market in Plainwell and Sam’s Club in Kalamazoo for the last several years of his working life.

He was a life-long resident of Otsego, proud community member and enthusiastic supporter of the OHS Bulldogs. Ron served his community as a volunteer firefighter and first responder from the 1970s to the 1990s. He loved participating in the city parades and Christmas activities at the firehall.

Ron was an avid outdoorsman, a passion he inherited from his beloved uncles. He fished for walleye in Canada, hunted pheasants in Nebraska, and whitetail deer in Michigan, among lots of other fish and game. Ron proudly displayed his trophies at home and always had a great story to tell about his adventures with family and friends. When he wasn’t in the woods or on the water, Ron loved playing in euchre and golf leagues with his friends Bernie Brown and Tim McPherson.

Ron is survived by his three sons, Ron, Bryan, and Bill Watson, his siblings John Watson and Deb Miller, and his grandchildren Gabby, Kayla, Madeline, Haley, Riley, Audrey, Elliot, and Dexter.

He was preceded in passing by his parents Richard and Naila Watson, and his sister Linda Wahmhoff.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place.

Friends may visit with Ron’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 27, 2026, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 A.M., with celebrant Nyla Merrill officiating. Burial of ashes will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery.
