Ronald E. Hofstra

Ronald Edward Hofstra, age 73, passed away on September 26, 2025. 

He was born July 26, 1952, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He graduated from Plainwell High School with the class of 1970. He worked at Plainwell Town & Country Grocery Store while he attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College learning the HVAC trade. He worked as a member of the Local 357 Pipe Fitters Union until his retirement in 2007. 

Ron loved to host a roomful of friends, watching the Tigers and the Lions. He also enjoyed watching golf on TV. He had a great sense of humor; his house was always filled with laughter. Ron enjoyed life. Hosting pool parties and enjoying his hot tub. A loving generous person who helped those in need, Ron was a Gift of Life donor, giving to the end. 

Ron is survived by his stepdaughter, Autumn Schmidt; stepson, Brad Stull; grandchildren, Lucy, Emma and Dylan; brother, Ricky Shattuck; his sister, Penny (Paul) Sugas; brother-in-law, Larry Fitzpatrick along with many nieces, nephews and many close friends, including special friend Amanda Stockwell. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Mary (Reid) Shattuck; stepfather, Elwyn Shattuck; sister, Linde Fitzpatrick and his lifelong best friend, Mark Wheeler. 

According to his wishes cremation has taken place. 

A graveside service at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego will be announced shortly.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Ron may be directed to Meals on Wheels or Christian Neighbors.
