Robert (Bob) Eugene Julianus passed away at his home in Otsego on June 26, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on June 4, 1943, in Grand Rapids, he was the son of Peter and Fannie “Peg” (Breen) Julianus.
Bob graduated as valedictorian from Rogers High School in 1961. He earned undergraduate and master’s degrees in paper science and engineering and educational leadership from Western Michigan University. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked in the paper industry and then as a field inspector for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency until his retirement in 2020. Bob enjoyed genealogy and spending time with his family at the red cottage on Sylvan Lake. Bob had a keen eye for beauty. He loved photography, music and fine art. He was a strong and dependable man who set forth knowing his course. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Otsego and The Gideons International.
On November 30, 1974, in Grand Rapids, Bob married Susan Lilly who survives. Also surviving are his children, Erin (Seth) McMillan and Hans (Brenna) Julianus; grandchildren, Finn, Eve and Fox; nieces and nephews, Mike (Maureen) Cromwell, Rebekah (Adam) Timmer, Elizabeth (Matt) Pashby, Christina (Josh) Barker, Jessica (John) Colvin, Arthur (Alana) Lilly, and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, John Julianus and Jackie Cromwell.
A family graveside service will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the First Congregational Church in Otsego. Visitation will begin at 11 o’clock and the service will be at noon. A luncheon will follow.
Contributions in memory of Bob may be directed to the First Congregational Church of Otsego or The Gideons International.
