Paul passed away peacefully at his home in Otsego on August 14, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on February 5, 1942, in Battle Creek, he was the son of Paul and Evelyn (Schmidt) Ponitz. His early life laid the foundation for a remarkable journey filled with love, dedication, and achievement.

Paul graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in business from Western Michigan University. His professional career spanned several decades during which he made significant contributions as a computer programmer for the City of Kalamazoo, Double Days and Perrigo, where he worked until his retirement.

Family was the cornerstone of Paul’s life. He was married to his beloved wife, Jane McClellan Allan, since February 16, 1962, in Kalamazoo. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Paul is survived by his wife, Jane; their three children, Mark (Rebecca) Ponitz of Plainwell, Marsha (Brian) Kohlhoff of Otsego, and Michelle (Jason) Zimmer of Kalamazoo; as well as seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren who were a source of great joy and pride for him. Paul also leaves behind his brother, John (Nancy) Ponitz of Rochester Hills.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Paul was known for his vibrant interests and deep connections within his community. His family-oriented spirit shone through in every aspect of his life. He enjoyed sailing and was a member of the Corvette Club, where he cherished the camaraderie shared among fellow car enthusiasts. Paul was also an active member of North Point Church in Plainwell, where he served as an elder.

Paul is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Dr. James Ponitz. His warm presence, unwavering love, and dedication to family and faith will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Friends may visit with Paul’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at North Point Church in Plainwell, until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., with his son-in-law, Pastor Jason Zimmer officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.
