Monna L. Covault

Monna passed away, Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Kauhale in Otsego. 

She was born on July 1, 1932, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Charles and Iris (Gothrup) Smith. As a young woman Monna enjoyed painting and drawing. She was a skilled seamstress and liked doing puzzles. On August 13, 1950, in Bloomingdale she married Clyde “Red” Covault Jr. who passed away in 2009. 

Surviving are her children, Cherry (Larry) Hughes, Deborah Castaneda, Pamela Covault, Michael (Robin) Covault and Thomas (Michelle Powers) Covault; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; half-brothers, Larry and Gary Smith along with several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Bernice (George) Stowman and half-brother, Bernard Peas. 

Friends may visit with Monna’s family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. 

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, December 4, 2025, at St. Margaret Cemetery in Otsego with Rev. Fr. Simon Manjooran officiating.

Contributions in memory of Monna may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
