Mary Ellen Riggs

Mary Ellen Riggs passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo. 

She was born January 22, 1947, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Russell and Irene (Dontje) Morrical. Mary graduated from Portage High School in 1965 and began her career working at Brunswick Bowling Products and for several medical offices in the area. She retired in 2001 as Human Resources manager at Rock Tenn Paper Mill in Otsego. Mary was a woman of strong faith and was a member of the Otsego Church of God where she was active in the bell choir. In her free time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. On August 26, 1967, in Portage, she married Douglas Riggs who survives. 

Also surviving are her children, James (Joanne) Riggs of Kalamazoo and William (Peggy) Riggs of Holt; 2 grandchildren, Patrick and Lydia; sister, Sandra Kay (Gale Voss) Adler along with several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Friends may visit with Mary’s family from 5-7 PM, Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 15, 2026, with Pastor Steve Burrow officiating. 

Burial will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South.
