Martha passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025, at her home in Otsego. 

She was born on January 21, 1933, in Delton, the daughter of Carl and Margarethe (Marx) Adams. For over 27 years Martha worked at Gibson Guitar, retiring when the company left the area. Martha was a life member and past Regent of the Otsego Moose Lodge. In her free time, she loved golfing and in her younger years enjoyed fishing. On July 9, 1976, she married Thomas Karkau who passed away in 2007. 

Surviving are her children, Darl (Karen) Doubblestein of Luther, Juanita (Doubblestein) Hendrixson of Otsego, and Steven Doubblestein of Otsego; stepchildren, Terri Karkau of Washington and Kristin (Dave) Goodman of Lansing; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Elman, Donna Dean and David Adams along with many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughters, Danielle Docekal and Meichen Plumhoff; son-in-law, Doug Hendrixson and her 5 siblings, Ginny, Vi, Bill, Colonel and Carla. 

According to her wishes cremation has taken place. 

A celebration of Martha’s life will be held at a later time along with burial of ashes at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.

Contributions in memory of Martha may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Otsego Moose Lodge.
