Sometimes you meet someone and can’t see then what a profound influence they’ll be in forming who you’ll become later in life. Leon welcomed me into his family when I started dating one of his daughters. He seemed to gage a person by how hard of a worker they were, he’d joke and laugh, but there was a rugged, serious side just in the background, out of sight. Knowing I lost my dad, he told me one day, he wasn’t trying to replace him but that he was going to treat me just like one of his kids. He never was my dad, but he was stern, solid, and caring, everything I needed in a dad. He was helpful but not over-giving, when life knocked you down, he’d be right by your side, but he wanted you to get yourself up off the floor. Funny how alike we were, farming was in our blood, we both worked for Parker for 20 years, we both even are missing fingers, never did find out how he lost his, but I heard a lot of stories on the matter, and yes, we are as stubborn as they come. Even after I left the family, he never changed how he acted around me, we didn’t see each other much, but he was the same man I met back in the 90’s. I have nothing but love and respect for Leon. Thank you for being the dad I thought I didn’t need, you filled a void in my heart that only you knew I needed.

So sorry to hear of Leon’s passing. I had the fortune of working with him at Parker until he retired. The shop always felt emptier without him there. Always had a smile and willing to help someone that needed it. Loved running into him at Healy’s hardware after he retired we would share some memories and have a few laughs. One very special person that will be missed.
