Larry P. Leonard

Larry passed away, Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.

He was born January 2, 1948, in Plainwell, the son of Phillip and Marie (Collick) Leonard. Larry was a 1966 Plainwell High School graduate and lifelong resident of the area. He worked at WKZO in Kalamazoo, ran the projector for Stacy at the Plainwell Sun Theater, helped start the Plainwell ambulance service and for over 25 years worked on the packaging lines at Perrigo.

Larry was a member, Deacon and Elder at Twin Lakes Reformed Church. He enjoyed writing poetry in his spare time and was a volunteer at Wings of Hope Hospice in Allegan. On May 16, 2012 in Parchment, he married Brenda Grimm who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Michael Leonard of Otsego and Kellie (Leonard)Simmons of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Tyler Leonard, Carter Leonard and Preston Simmons; mother, Marie Leonard of Georgia; siblings, Terry (Brian) Whitney of Plainwell, Sherry (Tom) Heitman of Flushing and Barry (Deanna) Leonard of Georgia along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and infant brother, Phillip.

Friends may visit with Larry’s family from 6-8 PM, Sunday, August 22, 2021 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 23, 2021 with Pastor Ron Packer officiating.

Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.

My heart and prayer’s go out to Larry’s entire family. I am sure the Wings of Hope Hospice will dearly miss him as well. Another one of Stacy and Lucille’s helpers, and a classmate.

My love & prayers go out to the family…

Larry was such a sweet young man.

I wish I had known earlier from Winkles

when the viewing & funeral was going to be.

But somehow Winkles did not show that

until after the funeral…(on Wed.)

Omg I’m soooo sorry to hear this and I just found out today on the 3rd of September 2021 at one time Larry and I were best friends and did everything together he was like a older brother to me very sad to hear this.
