Jeffrey A. Chappell, fondly known as Jeff, passed away on May 4, 2025, in Grand Rapids at the age of 68. Born on August 14, 1956, in Kalamazoo, he was the son of David and Marilyn (Allen) Chappell. Jeff lived a life marked by hard work, love for family, and a passion for the outdoors.
For over 30 years, Jeff owned and operated Chappell Construction in Plainwell. He enjoyed a fulfilling career. In the midst of this, he met and married the love of his life, Char, in May of 1998. He retired in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and commitment to quality.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Jeff was a man of many interests. Summers were spent with his grandsons, riding dirt bikes on his home track or on a racetrack. An active member of American Motocross Association District 14, he relished opportunities to connect with fellow racing enthusiasts. When not on a dirt bike, he would be in his pool he proudly cared for or maintaining his beautiful home. Time spent playing with his grandsons brought him immense happiness. If you ever wondered where Jeff was, look around outside at his home; you would find him happily enjoying the outdoors. In the last four years his favorite time was spent watching and playing with his youngest grandson, “Max”.
Jeff is survived by his son, Bill (Angela) Chappell, and his daughter, Deanna (Alonzo) DuPrie; his four grandsons, Kyler, Kegan, Brady and Maddex; siblings: Gregory (Jodi) Chappell, Jennifer (Dennis Dietz) Mitchell, David (Gail) Chappell, Nancy (John) Eaton, and Joel (Stacee) Chappell; along with several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Vicki (Dan) Ayers and Brenda (Adam) Holloway and brother-in-law, Tom Sowels.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 29 years, Char and sister, Michele.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 P.M., Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.
