James Harvey

Jim passed away Friday, June 18, 2021 at Stanford Lodge in Plainwell.

He was born December 6, 1933 in Kalamazoo, the son of Luther and Elizabeth (Anthony) Harvey. Jim was a 1952 Otsego High School graduate and lifelong resident of the area. He worked at Mac Sim Bar, Otsego Creamery and at Kal-Creamery from 1981 until his retirement in 1995. For over 40 years he was a member of the Otsego Moose Lodge, the Teamsters Union and the Allegan Draft Mule Association.

He attended Alamo Community Congregational Church and Otsego United Methodist Church. Jim was known for his many catchphrases and enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh. He liked spending time with his family, volunteering at Bowens Mills, good conversation and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Surviving are his children, Diane (Jerald) Veldt of Plainwell, Carol (Patrick) Shannahan of Colorado and James Harvey of South Dakota; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; step-son, Tim (Laurel) Marsh; siblings, Jane, Rachelle and Norman long with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marlan.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at the Otsego United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Shaler officiating.

Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell.

Jim’s family would like to thank the staff at Stanford Lodge for their care and friendships with Jim. He bonded with you all, thank you.

So sorry for the loss of such a remarkable man. One story after another when I met him many years ago at our Church…Otsego United Methodist. He loved to talk about driving the horses and wagon at Bowens Mill. Rest in Heavenly Peace to my Great Friend you so deserve it!

The loss of a parent or grandparent is one of the hardest losses we face in this life. The pain runs deep because of the love we have for them. They were there when we entered this world and we are here when they leave. I am so very sorry for your families loss he was a beautiful human being❤️ I have heard many wonderful stories from one his grand daughters. I hadn’t seen Jim in many years but he was great friends with my grandfather (Dick Hutchens). I have many fond memories of Jim and wish I would have stayed better connected with him in my adult life. Rest Easy in the arms of the Lord until the day we can meet again!
