James F. Dendel passed away on August 22, 2025, at his daughter’s home in Battle Creek. He was born on December 23, 1942, in Allegan, the son of Raymond and Irene (Boylan) Dendel.
Jim graduated from Otsego High School in 1961. He began working at Parker Hannifin in 1964 and was a devoted tool and die maker for 40 years until his well-deserved retirement.
Jim had many hobbies. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and hunting. A family man at heart, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and giving rides in his golf cart. He also liked camping, bowling, metal detecting and the simple pleasure of watching game shows. He was a longtime member of the Otsego Church of God and was currently attending North Avenue Church of God in Battle Creek. On February 8, 1963, he married Willa Slack who passed away in 2023.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his children, James Jr. (Kelley) Dendel, Eric (Doreen) Dendel, Tori (Jeff) Eckman, and Tamara Bryant. Jim was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and a loving great-grandfather to 13 great-grandchildren, with another due to arrive soon. He is also survived by his siblings, Kathy Dendel, Ray Jr. (Sarah) Dendel, Ron (Ana) Dendel, and Dean Dendel; his brother-in-law, Larry Digby; along with many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife; his beloved son, Scott; his grandson, Alex; his sister, Irma Digby and his sister-in-law, Sherrie.
Friends may visit with Jim’s family Friday, August 29, 2025, from 6-8 PM, at the Winkel Funeral Home and starting at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Otsego Church of God, until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 P.M., with Pastors Jeff Eckman and Tim Foreman officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.
Contributions in memory of Jim may be directed to the North Avenue Church of God in Battle Creek or to the Warner Memorial Camp Life to the Full Campaign.
