Ida M. Walton

Ida M. Walton passed away on September 9, 2026, at her home in Kalamazoo, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 24, 1936, in Portageville, Missouri, the daughter of Harvey and Rachel (Barnes) James.

Ida’s life was centered on her family, her home, and her faith. On October 11, 1951, she married Lawrence Risner, and together they shared 36 years of marriage until his passing in 1987. She later married Jack Walton on August 19, 1993, and they remained together until his passing. After raising her children, Ida worked at Humphrey Products for 15 years until her retirement.

She found joy in the simple and meaningful things of life. Ida enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, and crafts, and she took special pride in fixing up her house. She was known as a great cook and for keeping her home immaculate. Above all, she loved her Lord, and that faith was an enduring part of her life.

Ida leaves behind a loving family who will continue to cherish her memory: her children, Daniel Lee (Maddie) Risner of Florida, Linda Kay (Paul) Nichols of Plainwell, Dorothy (Victor) Chappell of Plainwell, Bonnie (Dave) Markle Plainwell, Lawrence Risner Jr. of Kalamazoo, and Richard A. (Angela) Risner of Battle Creek; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Vivian Trimpe; brother, Norman James along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother, Winford James and sister, Ollie James and by her infant sister, Little Victory.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to one of Ida’s granddaughters, Lacey Ford and niece, Heather Griffin, both registered nurses, for the loving and compassionate care they provided to Ida during her final days. Their dedication, kindness, and presence were a beautiful gift to Ida and her family. 

Friends may visit with Ida’s family starting at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Orangeville Pentecostal Church, until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 P.M., with Pastor Mike Risner officiating. 

Burial will follow at Oakhill Cemetery in Orangeville.
