Harold passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Woodland Terrace in Otsego. 

He was born on December 7, 1929, in Oshtemo Township, the son of Howard and Pearl (Robbins) Combs. Harold graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1947 and Argubright Business College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on board a Destroyer escort. He transferred to the Naval Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1954 with rank of Yeomans Petty Officer Third Class.

Harold worked at several area businesses over the years. As a young man he worked at Stedman’s Grocery Store and W.K. Kellogg Regional Airport. He went on to work for DeNooyer Chevrolet in Battle Creek and Holland, Progressive Computer Service in Galesburg, Hefner Chevrolet in Fort Wayne and retired from Century Buick in Kalamazoo in 1992 where he was general business manager. 

Harold was dedicated to his church and community. He was an active member, treasurer and served on vestry at Grace Episcopal Church in Holland. He also attended St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Battle Creek and Church of the Resurrection in Lakeview. He served on the Board of Directors of Family and Children’s Services in Battle Creek. 

Harold held his private pilot’s license and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and liked rebuilding and flying antique airplanes. He was also a John Deere enthusiast and was a member of the Two Cylinder John Deere Club, Family Motor Coach Association, The Good Sam Club and Kazoo Kampers. On February 11, 1950, he married Marjorie Fosdick who passed away in 2020. 

Surviving are her children, Colleen (Rick) Ritchie, Sheryl (Ken) McGuffin and Dennis Combs; grandchildren, Ryan (Linley) Combs, Kevin (Sara) Combs, Johnathon (Stacey) McGuffin and Patrick (Megan) McGuffin; sister, Esther Reinbold; brother, Russel Combs and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Art, Earl and Robert Combs and sister, Anabelle Combs. 

According to his wishes cremation has taken place. 

A graveside service will take place at Liberty Street Cemetery.
