Florence Lorene Hoard passed away Saturday, May 2, 2026, at her home in Martin. She was born on February 21, 1943, in Jefferson City, Tennessee, the daughter of Roy and Mildred (Lancaster) McDaniel. Lorene owned and operated Midwest Upholstery with her husband Bill until 1975 and B&L Storage in Martin.
Throughout her life, Lorene enjoyed a variety of interests that brought joy to her days. She was an avid flower gardener, dog lover and liked watching the birds. She found enjoyment in mystery and crime television, reading, and challenging her mind with word searches. Known for an eye for style, Lorene accumulated a collection of purses and purchased shoes she never wore. She was an avid NASCAR fan and liked traveling extensively with her husband, Bill, on their motorcycles, often taking trips that spanned weeks. Visits to family and treasured times spent in Tennessee were highlights she deeply valued. Among her many warm habits were wearing fuzzy slippers around the house, her love of shopping, and the special tradition of making jelly from grapes she grew.
On August 14, 1959, she married Dayton “Bill” Hoard who passed away in 2017. Surviving are her children, Debra Coburn of Martin and Tammy (Patrick Schmitt) Hoard of Parchment; 3 grandchildren, James (Tammi) Sprau, Johnathon (Laura) Peckens and William Peckens; 3 great-grandchildren Cooper, Clay and Evera along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; husband; son-in-law, Jim Coburn; and her siblings.
Friends may visit with Lorene’s family starting at noon, Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Lenny Luchetti officiating. Burial will follow at South Martin Cemetery.
