Donald "Don” Steele passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at his home on Pine Lake. He was born November 6, 1936, the son of Howard and Theo (Lytle) Steele.

Don's early years were spent working on the family dairy farm. He graduated from Plainwell High School in 1954 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He furthered his education by obtaining a master’s degree from Western Michigan University, setting the foundation for a long and fulfilling career in education.

For over 40 years, Don was devoted to teaching at Parkwood Upjohn Elementary School in Kalamazoo until his retirement in the early 2000s. Don's impact extended beyond the classroom, fostering relationships that would last long after his teaching years.

Don enjoyed woodworking, hiking and reading. He loved working out and found camaraderie and friendship at Repz Gym, which he considered his second family.

On February 2, 1964, Don married the love of his life, Donna Daggett, in Cooper Township. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. Don is survived by his beloved wife, Donna, and their children: Jeff (Debi) Steele of Plainwell, Wendy (Mike) Wallace of Plainwell, Rusty (Christina) Steele of Texas, and Dawn (Rick) Baad of Mattawan; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Nina and Noreen, along with his brothers, Robert (Mike) and Bruce.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place.
