Daniel S. Chapman

Daniel "Dan" Chapman passed away peacefully at his home in Plainwell on August 7, 2025. He was born on October 24, 1969, in Kalamazoo, the son of Thomas and Gwendolyn (Howard) Chapman.

He dedicated many years of his life to public service, serving as a Police Officer in Decatur, Dowagiac, and Mattawan. Dan also served as a Deputy Sheriff in Mackinac County for 15 years. His commitment to community safety extended beyond his law enforcement career, volunteering as a firefighter for Gun Plain Township. Most recently Dan worked at Perrigo.

Outside of his professional life, Dan found joy in being outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing, and he had a particular passion for gardening, especially nurturing giant pumpkins. A true lover of animals, he cherished his dogs and cats, finding companionship and joy in their presence.

He is survived by his loving parents, as well as his brothers, Jeff (Shirley) Chapman of Idaho and Joel (Kim) Chapman of Plainwell, nephews Kyle and Josh, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell, with Celebrant Nyla Merrill officiating.
