Conrad “Sonny” A. Markle, a devoted family man, passed away on March 24, 2026. Born on July 5, 1941, he was the son of James and Dorothy (Kimble) Markle. Conrad’s life was marked by dedication and a commitment to both his work and his loved ones.

A 1961 graduate of Otsego High School, Conrad began his love of sports playing high school football. His enthusiasm for sports and camaraderie extended well beyond his school years, as he remained actively involved in softball leagues and bowling tournaments throughout his life.

Conrad’s professional career spanned several decades and showcased his skills and reliability as a mechanic. He worked at multiple area auto dealerships and at the OPS bus garage before finding a long-term home at Brown Company/James River. There, he devoted 30 years of service until his retirement in 2002. He was also an avid deer hunter. His adventurous spirit was evident in his enjoyment of riding motorcycles and snowmobiling up north. Beyond outdoor pursuits, Conrad held a special passion for NASCAR and enjoyed watching races with his son. He also collected NASCAR and Coca-Cola memorabilia. Family was at the heart of Conrad’s life. He was proud of the four children he had with his first wife, Mary Ann, whom he married in 1961.

Conrad is survived by his devoted children Corinne (Richard) Crisman of Otsego, David (Julia) Markle of Vicksburg, and Craig Markle of Augusta, siblings Sharon Carr, Robert Markle and Deb Schoonhoven. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews and stepchildren Dale and Theresa. He is preceded in death, by his son Ronnie, sister Judy Gott and second wife Ginger, who he married in 2016.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later time. Burial of ashes will take place at Alamo Center Cemetery.
