Burdett “Sonny” Belcher

Sonny passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 in Kalamazoo.

He was born July 31, 1937 in Plainwell, the son of Burdett and Helen (Cole) Belcher. Sonny was a 1956 Otsego High School graduate and had served in the Army Reserves. For 44 years he had worked at Georgia Pacific until his retirement in 2000.

In his spare time Sonny enjoyed following NASCAR especially Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr., and watching any team play baseball and hockey, especially the Red Wings. He had been a volunteer for the Kalamazoo Westwood Fire Department for 10 years and the Lawton Fire Department for 42 years. Sonny was a member of the Kalamazoo Moose Lodge. In 1956 he married Altha Laws who survives.

Also surviving are his sons, Jeffery (Marjorie) Belcher of Kalamazoo and Scott (Heather) Belcher of NC; 3 wonderful granddaughters, Courtney, Maureen and Zoe and his best friend, Dick.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dolores.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place.

A Memorial Luncheon will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 4:00 P.M. at the Lawton Fire Dept., 125 S. Main Street, Lawton.

Contributions in memory of Sonny may be made to the Kalamazoo Humane Society.

We are so sorry to have lost Sonny. He was such fun at our luncheons. No one else wanted to sit in “your” seats, He is pain free now.

Thank you Sonny for both being a friend at the auto auction, and sharing many memories as fellow OHS alumni’s.
