Brian Kahlmorgan

Brian Kahlmorgan, born on February 13, 1958, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, at Kauhale in Otsego, surrounded by the love of his family. The son of Christopher and Marcella (Hickman) Kahlmorgan, Brian was known for his caring nature, infectious laughter, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

A dedicated professional, Brian began his career at Discount Tire in Battle Creek in 1983. His exemplary work ethic and leadership led him to transfer to Irving, Texas, when in March 1986, he became the manager and later moved to Bedford, Texas, where he continued to excel in his role, earning numerous accolades, including Manager of the Year.

Brian was a proud graduate of Plainwell High School, having completed his studies in 1976. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a devoted husband to his wife, Jacqualyn, and a loving father to his three children: Christopher (Nicole) Kahlmorgan of Plano, Texas, Danielle Kahlmorgan of Dallas, Texas, and Petty Officer 1st Class Andrew Kahlmorgan, who is stationed in RidgeCrest, California. He also cherished his relationships with his siblings: Shirley Hawley, Mark Kahlmorgan, Pat (Roger) Heckman, and his stepbrother, Joe Suglia. Brian took great joy in his extended family, including several nieces and nephews and a special cousin, Deb (Barry) Hoover.

Outside of his career, Brian was passionate about his hobbies and interests. He enjoyed golfing and was an active member of the Christian Classic Cruisers Car Club, participating in many parades with his beloved cars. A collector at heart, he was known for his love of sports, with a particular fondness for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Tigers, and Red Wings. His faith played a central role in his life, as he was very active in his church, attending Rush Creek Christian Church in Arlington, Texas, and most recently First Congregational Church of Otsego. Throughout the years, he participated in various mission trips with his church community, further reflecting his commitment to service. Brian loved making others laugh, always had an open-door policy for Sunday dinners, would help anyone in need and was always willing to do the dishes.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Victor Suglia, as well as his sister-in-law, Judy Kahlmorgan, brother-in-law, Jack Hawley, and stepbrother, Phil Suglia. His legacy of kindness, humor, and compassion will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place.

Friends may meet with Brian’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the First Congregational Church of Otsego, until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Lenny Luchetti officiating.

Private family burial of ashes will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park North in Kalamazoo.

Contributions in memory of Brian may be directed to Christian Classic Cruisers Car Club or the American Cancer Society to further Brain Cancer Research.
