Larry passed away, Monday, October 16, 2023, at his home in Plainwell, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Baroda, the son of Herman and Hazel (Sorgatz) Nitz. Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. For over 25 years he worked for General Motors until his retirement. In his free time Larry enjoyed being outdoors, bow hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Otsego. On May 17, 1958 he married Virginia Schultz who survives.
Also surviving are his sons, Kurt (Kris) Nitz, Mark (Jayne) Nitz and Peter Nitz; grandchildren, Gretchen, Sara, Matthew (Heather), Calvin (Megan), Rachel (Nate), Laura, Michelle (Lewis), Penelope and Reuben; great-grandchildren, Titus, Aaron, Anna and Soren; siblings, Kenneth and Elaine along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Harold and Chester. According to his wishes cremation has taken place.
Friends may visit with Larry’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church of Otsego, until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Nathaniel Timmermann officiating.
Burial of ashes will follow at West Cooper Cemetery.

Sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. When we first became his neighbors in 1965, Dad had gotten permission for Mike, Bob and I to cut across the street in order to make our way down to Hess Lake to ice fish after school. Sometimes we would find Larry there as well. He showed us where to fish and we usually caught a few. We all thought he was “pretty cool”.
God’s blessings to the family…remember all the good stuff….I am sure there is plenty of it.
