Jim passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at his home in Otsego.
He was born August 28, 1945 in Plainwell, the son of Neil and Virginia (Bushee) Misner. Jim graduated from Otsego High School in 1963. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a mechanic from 1966-1968.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University. He owned Weber Motor Sales in Allegan until he received his Master’s in Education from Grand Valley State University in 1989. Jim began teaching at Dumont Lake Juvenile Facility and went on to be Transition Coordinator at AAESA for 19 years until his retirement.
In his free time Jim enjoyed camping and metal detecting. He was a member of the Otsego American Legion and Otsego United Methodist Church where he was an active reader and loved bible study. For 28 years he was married to Theresa Boysen and on May 8, 1999 he married Kathleen Barton who passed away in 2017.
Surviving are his children, Brian (Jill) Misner, Neil (Kate) Misner and Shawn (Shawn) Kolhoff; step-children, Amy (Brian) Dole and Adam Strong; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Howard (Melissa) Misner; brother-in-law, Gary Shook and his cat, Ruby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathy; daughter-in-law, Amy; sister, Sondra Shook and by his 4 legged girl, Sophie.
Friends may meet with Jim’s family from 5-8 PM, Friday, October 7, 2022 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Otsego United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeremy Africa, Pastor Joe Shaler and Pastor Dan Minor officiating.
Military Honors by Otsego VFW Post #3030.
Cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Jim may be made to the Otsego Veterans Memorial.

Jim Misner was a ight to any room he walked into. His quiet strength, and I can do attitude made him a joy to be around. I noticed Jim because he was always so complimentary and supportive to my job as the secretary at his church. He personified, kindness, strength and love, and he will be missed on so many levels. I pray that his family can rejoice in the memories of the fantastic life they shared with their Dad, Grandfather, Brother, and friend.

A great man has passed our way. I was so very glad to have known Jim. I first met Jim when he married my cousin Kathy. Jim not only came to visit us in Kansas, but allowed us to stay with them when we came back home to Michigan from time to time. What a fun time we had. So very accommodating. One night there were seven (7) of us in the car and Jim was driving. We had been to see relatives and all thought we were going to eat dinner there. Well, dinner was not served and we were all starving on the drive back home. Jim asked us what we wanted to eat and of course we had different ideas. So a trooper he was, Jim drove us all through 3, maybe 4 different drive thrus ordering everybody’s food order. We got to laughing so and by the time Jim was on his last drive thru he was ordering anything just to get the food in the car and shut us all up. We were laugh/crying at the same time. I’ll never forget it and how down to earth Jim was. A great time every time we were around him. I have to think Jim and Kathy are reunited and I am blessed to have had him in my life. All our sympathies to Brian, Neil, Shawn and families.

Dearest Jim’s family-
What a neat guy to know, I meant him through my mom(Sonya) after my stepdad passed away, he bought our family fried chicken.
I just talked to Jim about a month ago in his driveway,he was telling me he was on hospice and I told him if he needed me, he knew where I lived. He said thank you and he has his loving family at his house. That he was ready to be with Kathy and Sophie, and the Lord. I told him I know and when you get the call they will be there waiting for you. Jim had a big heart for people, I’ll always think of him sitting out in his car in the morning watching the kids at dix street. I and my daughter would wave at him as I dropped her to school.
Just know I’m praying for you as a family at this time cherish the memories and may God comfort you.
