James A. Phillips of Doster, Michigan died Tuesday morning, April 5, 2022 at Ascension Borgess Hospital.
James was born December 22, 1938 in Doster, living his whole life on the family farm. After graduating from Delton Kellogg High School, he served his country in the U.S. Army. On May 29, 1959 he married Pat Fuller at Watson Corners Church. Pat preceded him in death on October 7, 2011. James was employed by the STIRC School in Pine Lake before his retirement. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, swimming, and caring for his lawn. He published a book of poetry that will soon be available to the public. James liked his life in Doster and he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his children, Randy Phillips of Dowling, Michigan and Patti Phillips of Doster; grandchildren, James Rice, Joseph Guerin, Hope Phillips, Michelle Phillips and Ryan Phillips; 10 great grandchildren, and his sister Shirley Westphal of Grass Lake, Michigan. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Friends may meet with James’ family from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, April 8 at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 9 at the funeral home. Mary Ann Devries will be the Celebrant.
