Jack

Jack passed away Monday, August 21st, 2023, in Kalamazoo.

He was born January 7th, 1959, in Kalamazoo, the son of George and Frances (Hinds) Hawley. Jack graduated from Comstock High School in 1977. He proudly served his country in the U.S Navy on the SS Duluth while stationed in San Diego, CA. Upon discharge Jack returned to Kalamazoo and worked at many area companies as a plastic injection mold maker until his retirement in 2020.

Jack was a very kind and gentle person who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He held his family in the center of his heart, worked hard to do things the way they should be done and never started something that he couldn’t finish.

He liked horses and event jumping, golfing, traveling, and camping. He also enjoyed watching all sports. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Otsego, MI. On May 6th, 1995, he married Shirley Kahlmorgan who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Jessica (Adam) McGuire of Kalamazoo and Amanda (Sean) Keigher of Illinois; stepchildren, Shannon (Daniel) Bower of Plainwell, William “Jamie” (Kristie) Stannard of Georgia and Corey Stannard of Plainwell; 14 grandchildren; sisters, Deborah Hawley and Katy Hawley along with many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and brother, Jeff Hawley.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place.

Friends may visit with Jack’s family starting at 10am,  Saturday, September 9th at the First Congregational Church of Otsego, until the time of the memorial service at 11am, with a luncheon directly following.

Burial of Ashes will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI at a later date.

Contributions in memory of Jack may be made to the First Congregational Church of Otsego.

Messages of condolence may be posted at www.winkelfuneralhome.com.

    Dear Shirley,

How painful to loose the love your life. As so many have said, what a gentle, kind soul. I enjoyed talking with him at church after the service, I’d turn around, and there was Jack’s smiling face. We shared a common ground and spoke of loosing our brothers. The void of Jack is already felt. I pray that our Lord will wrap His arms around you.

I am so terribly sad to hear of this. Jack and I grew up right next to each other as kids right next-door, and had lots and lots of good times. He was a great guy by anybody’s standards.
