Raymond Bodine

Raymond Bodine of Otsego passed away Friday, February 27, 2015 in Allegan. Mr. Bodine was born December 28, 1927 in Allegan Township. Ray was a veteran of WWII, serving 3 years in the Army Air Force. For over 40 years, he was employed with KVP, later Brown and then James River. He was a member of the Otsego Moose Lodge. He loved being with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his spare time Ray enjoyed working with his hands, working on tractors and building furniture for others. On July 2, 1949, in Otsego, he married Mary Vote, and they had recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

In addition to his wife, also surviving are a son Doug Bodine of Otsego, a daughter Cheryl (Steve) Hamilton of Mansfield, TX; 6 grandchildren, Stephen (Corrine) Hamilton, Christopher Hamilton, Nathan Hamilton, Jennifer Jameson, Danielle (Jason) Corradini and Justin (Jennifer) Bodine; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Maryann Birmele of Hartford and a brother Richard (Barbara) Bodine of Parchment. Ray was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Falor and an infant sister, Pauline. Cremation has taken place. Friends may meet with Ray’s family Tuesday, March 3 from 6-8 P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where a Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, March 4 at 11:00 A.M. Pamela S. Knowlton

Pam passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015 due to a tragic accident in Otsego.

She was born August 23, 1959 in Plainwell, the daughter of Larry and Shirley (Vander Ploeg) Knowlton. Pam grew up in Shelbyville and was a 1977 graduate of Wayland High School. Following graduation she moved to Otsego. She attended Parsons Business School and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Nazareth in 1984. Pam had worked for the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo and then had worked for the Allegan County Treasurer for 10 years. For the past 2 years she was employed with the city of Otsego. Pam loved her cats and enjoyed scrapbooking, arts and crafts and following NASCAR.

Surviving are her mother, Shirley; her brothers, Doug Knowlton of Shelbyville and Steve (Natalie) Knowlton of Otsego; niece, Ashley; nephew, Tyler; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; along with her special family members, Tim and Heather Smith and Kayla and Trenton.

She was preceded in death by her father, Larry in 1991.

Friends may meet with Pam’s family Monday, March 2, 2015 from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where a Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Jason Zimmer officiating.

Private family burial will follow.

Helen passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 in Allegan.

She was born May 11, 1926 in Allegan the daughter of Harry and Gertrude (Marble) Jewett. Helen enjoyed sewing, embroidery, knitting, reading, playing the piano, attending church, flower gardening, painting and riding in the car. On June 23, 1945 in Allegan she married Ivan Kibby who passed away in 1971.

Surviving are their children, Ivan (Kathleen) Kibby of Allegan, Sharon Kibby of Charlotte, Helen (Randy) Baron of Tampa, FL, Ronald (Pamela) Kibby of Allegan, Bonneita (Orrin) Kibby of Comstock and Dale (Cathy) Kibby of Wesley Chapel, Fl; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and her special nephew, Kenneth.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Catherine Lee; infant brother, Max Jewett; son-in-law, Carl Shafer; uncle, Max B. Jewett; brothers and sisters in-law, Harrison and Mildred Kibby, Les and Geraldine Gable, Marion and Marge Schultz.

Friends may meet with Helen’s family Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 5-8 P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Allegan with The Rev. Ethan Jewett officiating.

Burial will take place at Poplar Hill Cemetery at a later time.

Tommy Jameson of Plainwell passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015. He was born December 17, 1961 to Douglas and Marshia (Stopher) Jameson. Tommy had worked at Hammond Machinery as a painter/finisher. He enjoyed building/running large scale RC cars and trucks and also working on autos having even come home with an ambulance. He enjoyed spending time up north at the lake and dunes; NASCAR races especially Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson. Tommy loved his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife Melissa and daughter Betsy; his mother Marshia; his siblings, Jeff Jameson, Kim Lewis all of Plainwell; nieces and nephews, Josh (Jamie) Jameson, Ashley (Travis Kuiper) Knarian, Clinton (Elizabeth) and Brittany Jameson; several great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his father. Cremation has taken place according to his wishes. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 27, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego with Bill Rose Celebrant. Contributions in memory of Tommy may be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital or In Touch Ministries.

Jerry passed away Friday, February 13, 2015 in Kalamazoo.

He was born April 21, 1943 in Lawrence, the son of Harry and Hazel (Triesenburg) Newnum. Jerry loved spending time with his family, listening to older country music, playing his guitar, bowling and fishing.

Surviving are his nieces and nephews along with their children and several extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Peggy Walker, Wanda Melson and Diana Christofalos.

Friends may meet with Jerry’s family Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego starting at 10:00 A.M. until the Service time at 11:00 A.M., Celebrant Molly Wieber officiating.

Burial will follow at Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park in Kalamazoo.

Jack Mitchell of Plainwell, MI passed away Friday, February 13, 2015 in Kalamazoo. Jack was born July 16, 1939 in Montmorency County, Lewiston to Leslie & Doris (Carlson) Mitchell. He had been employed for over 30 years at Plainwell Paper Company and in his leisure time enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling.

Surviving are his wife, Linda; his children, Sheri Mitchell, Rosamond, CA, Douglas & Pamela Mitchell, Grandville, MI, Robert & Katie Mitchell, Milford, OH; grandchildren, Nicole & Mike Rodriguez, Brycen, Joshua, Carter, Racheal, Jeremiah, Connor, Angelia, Dustin & Abby Schuiteboer, Rusty & Rachael Schuiteboer, August & Amanda Schuiteboer; great grandchildren, Isabella, Eric, Anna, Jonah, Logan, Lexie, Chloe, Izik, Hunter, Colton, Cassie, McKinsey, Emily, Reed and best friends, Mark & Shawn; sister, Judy & Richard Cohoon and brother Leslie (Butch). He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Stella Newell.

Claire E. Wycoff

Gene passed on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Alamo Nursing Home.

He was born April 23, 1921 in Benton Harbor, the son of Clarence and Ida (Merrill) Wycoff. Gene served his country in the US Navy during World War II. For 15 years he had worked at the Rex Paper Mill and then at Menasha until his retirement in 1983. Gene enjoyed gardening, woodworking, bowling, working on car engines, following the Detroit Tigers and Lions, camping with his family and spending winters in Florida which he had done for 20 years. On March 22, 1941 in Kalamazoo he married Doris Hayward who passed on in 2005.

Surviving are his children, Terry (Fran) Wycoff of Plainwell, Dianne (Dick) Andrews of Kalamazoo, Kathy (Larry) Peterson and David (Paula) Wycoff both of Plainwell; 10 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren and his sister, Phyllis Bower.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; infant son, Claire; son, Thomas; granddaughters, Melody Demo and Sherry Rabb; and by his siblings, Ken, Floyd, Marion and Florence.

Friends may meet with Gene’s family Sunday, February 15, 2015 from 2-4 P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego and from 10 A.M. Monday, February 16, 2015 until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Joe Shaler officiating.

Burial will follow at Green Bower Cemetery in Alamo Township.

Donald R. Wallace

Butch passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

He was born January 22, 1942 in Kouts, Indiana, the son of Walter and Irene (Gott) Wallace. Butch was a 1960 Otsego High School graduate. For 33 years he drove truck for the Pepsi Co. After his retirement he had worked at Eagle Creek and the Lynx Golf Courses. Butch had also done some farming. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing, playing horseshoes, watching C-Span, playing craps and blackjack. On November 5, 1960 in Otsego he married Kay Nichols who passed away in 2007.

Surviving are his companion, Karen Hahn; his children, Kimberly (Victor) Tikkanen of Clearwater, FL, Kevin Wallace of Middletown, OH, Michael (Wendy) Wallace and Robert Wallace both of Plainwell; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Kay (Bob) Dugal, Wayne (MaryAnn) Wallace, Larry (Char) Wallace, Susie (Ron) Ellinger and Annie (Buddy) Wallace; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kay and by his brothers, Melvin, Roland, Kenny and Marvin.

Friends may meet with Butch’s family Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 5-8P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where a Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Celebrant Bill Rose officiating.

Guy Hess Jr.

Guy E. Hess Jr. of Gobles, MI passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at his home. He was born March 6, 1937 in Kalamazoo, the son of Guy and Maxine (Crawford) Hess. Guy graduated from State High School where he pitched on the Varsity Baseball team for 3 years, with a record of 21 wins and 4 losses. During the summer in high school, he played American Legion Baseball under Coach Fred Stevens. Their team was the state runner-up. Guy was honored 4 years in the Kalamazoo Gazette All City Pitchers roster and was awarded 3 Gold Baseballs for pitchers in Kalamazoo area schools. After high school he attended Grand Rapids Community College where he was starting pitcher for two years, then pitched for one year at Western Michigan University where he graduated with a Master’s Degree. Guy also played one year with the Washington Senators, a Minnesota Twins organization. In 1962 he was student teacher under George Klaeran at Otsego Public Schools in 7th grade health and physical education and assisted in varsity baseball. He then taught in Colon, MI schools for 2 years. From 1965 to 1988, he taught PE, Life Science and Math, also coaching 7th & 8th grade boys baseball, 7th & 8th grade intramural sports and introduced floor hockey. Guy served Otsego High School athletics in varsity baseball, girls softball, JV baseball, was a faculty manager and ran the clock for over 40 years during football and basketball games for Freshman, JV and Varsity boys and girls.  He spent 45 years teaching Driver’s Ed to over 5000 students and never had an accident. His total hours were over 9000 including classroom, driving range and road time. Guy never missed a day teaching due to illness.

On July 11, 1987 in Otsego he married Nancy Neal who survives. Also surviving are his children, Cory (Aimee) Hess, Sydne (Akinori) Suzuki, Scott (Sherry) Hess and Christa (Jim) Wesley; 9 grandchildren, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Bailey, Tyler, Sara, Shayna, Sawyer, Sage and Jasmine; 3 great-grandchildren, Brayden, Maysn and McKenzie; his siblings, Gayle Hess and Jim Hess; extended family members and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Glen Hess.

Friends may meet with Guy’s family Sunday, February 15, 2015 from 3 P.M. until the time of the Memorial Service at 6 P.M. at the Radiant Church, 8157 East DE Avenue, Richland, MI, Pastor Todd Staal officiating. June E. Simon of Galesburg, MI passed away Monday, February 09, 2015 in Kalamazoo. She was born in East Grand Rapids on December 20, 1923 to Frank and Mildred (Joy) Campbell. June grew up in Otsego, MI. She retired from James River Corp. June enjoyed traveling, knitting, gardening, reading and doing puzzles. She was a longtime member of the Galesburg Methodist Church.

Survivors include her children, Ronald Smith of Galesburg, MI, Gail Sutton of Richland, MI, Stephen (Gailen) of GA and Thomas (Rhonda) Smith of Portage, MI; grandchildren, Russ (Kris) Smith, Scott Smith, Sherry Sanford, Skip (Dani) Smith, Shawna Sutton, Ron (Heather) Sutton, Chris (Anne) Smith, Jeremy (Deb) Smith, Tony (Kate) Smith, Shannon Wellington, Amy (Jason) Gilmer, Tracy (Jeff) Nytray and Mandy (Ryan) Muck; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Doreen) Campbell of Charlotte, MI and several nieces and nephews.

June was preceded in death by her son, Michael “Mick” Smith; sister, Joy Ryon and by her parents.

Cremation has taken place. A private service will be held at Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, MI with Pastor Dan Miner and June’s family members officiating.
