Max Bonnell

Max F. Bonnell of Otsego, MI passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 in Kalamazoo. Max Bonnell was born April 4, 1933 in Alamo Twp., the son of Alan and Minerva (Flegal) Bonnell. Max attended Otsego High School where he played clarinet in the band and was in the graduating class of 1951. Following graduation Max worked as an Auto Mechanic until he was able to open his own service station. He was the owner of Bonnell’s Auto Service in Alamo from 1968 – 1978. He then worked as a mechanic, a parts manager and a service manager for several area auto dealerships. Max retired from Rex Hays Chevrolet in Allegan in May 1998. Max enjoyed ice fishing with his sons while they were growing up, golfing, bowling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also played clarinet and saxophone with a local band and enjoyed stock car racing, he was the owner of a stock car and drove from time to time.

On June 27, 1953 in Otsego, Max married Betty Fuller who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Brian (Susan) Bonnell and Terry (Charlene) Bonnell; grandchildren, Daniel (Elizabeth), Shaun, Heather (Jeffrey) Kiel, Cody, Jeffrey (Meredith), Keith, Amy (Mark) Morey; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Alan and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. immediately followed by a memorial service at Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, Pastor Ron Lugten officiating. Burial of ashes will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego at a later date.

Jerry Blood

Jerry Blood

Jerry Lee Blood of Plainwell, Michigan, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Wings Home in Allegan. Mr. Blood was born May 30, 1944 in Allegan to Clyde and Maida (VanOrder) Blood and was a lifelong resident of the area.

For 20 years, until his retirement in 2003, he was employed with InterKal in Portage. Previously he had also held various jobs including forklift driver, semi-truck driver, welder, factory worker and delivery of farming supplies. In his leisure time he liked NASCAR, including Truck, Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series. His favorite drivers included Johnny Benson and Carl Edwards. The dog “Lady” was his dog, and his pride and joy, to take outside and to watch TV with, in his recliner. He enjoyed Lawrence Welk reruns. Jerry loved to do Word Find puzzles, listen to the radio, feed the birds and play handheld games. He loved fishing with his dad, camping with family and friends, and fish fries.

On July 24, 1965 in Allegan he married Jerri Sue Blakeman, who died June 23, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are a son and a daughter, Ken Blood of Byron Center and Christine ‘Crissy’ Blood of Kalamazoo; and a brother, Jim Craig (Kitty) Blood of Holland; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service at the Otsego Church of God will be announced later.

Danny Trutsch

Danny Trutsch

Danny Ray Trutsch of Allegan passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 in Kalamazoo. Danny was born May 5, 1961 in Kalamazoo to Harold and Janet (Garrett) Trutsch and was a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from Allegan High School in 1981 and for several years had been employed with Jewel in Kalamazoo and then Meijer in Plainwell. Danny was a huge U of M fan.

Surviving are his mother, Janet Trutsch of Otsego; three sisters, Chrissy Trutsch of Kalamazoo, Christianna Trutsch and Alyssa Trutsch, both of Allegan; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father in 1986 and his grandparents.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. Burial will be at Blackman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Hazel Stewart

Hazel Stewart

Hazel E. Stewart of Plainwell, MI passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013 at her home. Hazel was born March 26, 1944 in Aberdeen, WA, the daughter of Clarence and Opal (Sweeny) Wells. Hazel enjoyed Bingo, sewing, quilting, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She believed material possessions are just things, but family and friends are priceless. Hazel was a two time cancer survivor. She worked over 20 years in construction with her husband and sons and did factory work, most recently as a quality control inspector at Allegan Metal Finishing, retiring in 2008.

On February 14, 1968 in Allegan, she married Bud Stewart, who preceded her in death in 2009. She was also preceded in death by a son, James “Pork” Stewart; a granddaughter, Athena Holly; her parents, Clarence & Opal Wells; 3 sisters, Marge Martin, Doris Edison and Donna Lambert.

She is survived by her children, Elmer (Deana) Holly of NC, Sharon (Wayne) Youtzy of Elkhart, IN, Naomi (Horace) Bryant of Plainwell, Larry (Trish) Holly of Kalamazoo, Richard “Rick” Stewart of Otsego, Theron “Punk” Stewart of Plainwell, Kim (Charles) Steele of Kalamazoo, Bud (Sam) Stewart of FL, Jamie (Mary) McDole and Loretta (Don) Wheeler of Otsego; 34 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Tonya Stewart; her siblings, Joyce (Richard) Koch of Shannon, GA, David Wells of FL, Dale (Margaret) Wells of Plainwell, Orrin “Ben” Wells of Martin and Albert Wells of Lincoln, NB; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Friends may meet with the family Wednesday, March 20, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where funeral services will be held Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 11:00 AM, Pastor Kent Frens officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego.

Phyllis Wyma

Phyllis Wyma (Lewis) age 85 went to be with her Lord Saturday, March 16, 2013 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Arthur and Nellie Lewis and her son Jerry Lee Miller; sisters, Loraine Lewis, Elaine Pearce and brother Arthur Lewis.

She is survived by her children, Pamela (Nate) McKenzie, Jan Marie (Theron) Collins and Joseph Miller; 4 grandchildren, Eric (Amy) Miller, Victoria (Terry) Wills, Christopher (Amy) Miller and Cody (Rachel) Miller; 7 great-grandchildren, Breann, Alexandra, Elliott, Kaylynn, Simona, Dominc and Carter; and special friends, Beverly Brumley and Jim Harvey.

Friends may meet with Phyllis’s family from 10-11 A.M. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Otsego United Methodist Church where a Christian funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Joe Shaler officiating. Interment will be at the Grandville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook SE, Suite 300, Grand Rapids, MI  49546.

Ryan Baclich

 C. Ryan Baclich of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 at his home. Ryan was born July 9, 1977 in Kalamazoo, the son of Craig M. Baclich and Dolores R. Munnelly.

Ryan recently began working at Graphic Packaging in Kalamazoo and had worked as a Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter with Local Union 669 in previous years. He loved playing sports with his boys and was a devoted and loving husband and father who was very proud of his children.

In September of 2004 he married Tanya Murdock in Ellsworth. Survivors include his wife, Tanya Baclich; his children, Nickalas Baclich, Brendan Baclich and Taylor Murdock; granddaughter, Destiny Sutherland; parents, Craig and Tamarah Baclich of Bellaire and Dolores Munnelly of Palmetto, FL; siblings,  Brett Baclich, Kelli Baclich, Brad Lennox, Pat Lennox and Lindsey Hoeksema.

Cremation has taken place. The family will be available to receive friends on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the Plainwell Comfort Inn, rooms 217 and 219.

Elaine Cooley

Vivian Elaine Cooley of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 in Plainwell. Mrs. Cooley was born September 29, 1927 in Allegan to James and Hazel (VanKeuren) Hays. Elaine was a member of the First Congregational Church of Otsego, the Otsego Women of the Moose, a member and past president of V.F.W. Post #3030 Ladies Auxiliary; a life member of the V.F.W. National Home for Children and a life member of Camp Trotter. She loved her family and was a devoted homemaker.

On June 28, 1947 she married Chester ‘Chet’ Cooley, who died in 2007. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Marvin Hays and James ‘Jud’ Hays.

Surviving are two sons and two daughters, Robert (Linda) Cooley of Otsego, Deborah (Jim) Nimmer of Kalamazoo, Gary (Kay) Cooley of Kokomo, IN and Ann (Patricia NaQuin) Cooley of Pensacola, FL; five grandchildren, Scott (Jerri), Erin (Gordon), Jason (Brandy) Daniela (Chris) and Jennifer (Manny); ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty June Goodacre of Plainwell; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Hays of Allegan; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with Elaine’s family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 14, 2013, Pastor David Youngs and the V.F.W. #3030 Ladies Auxiliary officiating. Cremation will follow with burial of ashes at Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan.

Lois Jacqulyn “Jackie” Clark of Otsego, Michigan, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, March 7, 2013, after a long battle with cancer.

Jackie was born July 26, 1932 in Wayland to Floyd and Lucinda (Fales) Marciniak. For several years she had been employed with Judy’s Restaurant and then worked at Wal-Mart until her retirement in September of 2012. In her leisure time she enjoyed making and decorating cakes, gardening and helping others. Jackie loved people and especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are a daughter and a son, Linda Kimble of Plainwell and Fred (Joanne) Clark of Otsego; four granddaughters, Heidi (Trent)Taylor of Louisiana, Gini (Keith) Wall of Allegan, Nicole (Chad) Dutton and Natasha Clark, both of Otsego; five great-grandchildren, Aeryk Granger, Taylor Goodsell, Mikayla Wall, Austin Dutton and Collin Dutton; three sisters, Joann (Roscoe) Johnson of Allegan, Judith (Alfred) Alexander of Oshtemo and Janice (John) Bigley of Schoolcraft; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Marciniak; her mother, Lucinda VanBuskirk; and two brothers, James Marciniak and John Marciniak; and an infant daughter, Lois Kimberly.

Friends may visit with Jackie’s family from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M., Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where Funeral Services will be held  Tuesday at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Chad Thoreson officiating. Cremation will follow with burial of ashes at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego.

Martha Lutz of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at her home. Martha was born September 28, 1944 in Huron, Ohio, the daughter of Lawrence and Violet (Tarring) La Course.

She enjoyed sewing and visiting with friends and family.

Surviving are her husband, Richard ‘Dick’ Lutz; three daughters, Sally (Todd) Tracht, Bambi Lutz, Michelle ‘Missy’ Lunato; two grandkids, Dominique and Nichols; a sister, Peg (Ralph) Bauer; a nephew, Josh Patrick; Glenda (Larry) Hodgman, who was like a sister.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Lester and Charles La Course; and a grandson, Michael Tracht.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Friendship Wesleyan Church, Plainwell.

Sara Goderre

Sara D. Goderre of Otsego, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 3, 2013 at her home.

Sara was born November 9, 1947 in Ogden,Utah to Rex and Agnes (Davies) Branch. She attended Paw Paw High School and worked and competed successfully with horses in the Western Pleasure Class. Sara loved animals and worked more than 30 years as a veterinary technician. Sara was a non-traditional fun-loving free spirit, who was always there with open arms to family and friends.

Surviving are her son and daughter, Gabriel (Dana) Goderre of Otsego and Megan (Ben) Knight of Allegan; five grandchildren, Devon, Olivia, Jaylynn, Trae and Ethan; siblings, Anne Branch of Lake Odessa, Steve Branch of Honor, Missy (Don) Torrey of Bangor and Greg (Diane) Branch of Otsego; a dear friend, Nick McCarty; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may visit with Sara’s family from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. Cremation will follow with a Celebration of her life to be held in the spring. (The family asks friends for contact information, either in the register book at the funeral home or on the funeral home website, so that they can send notification of the day and time of the Celebration of Life).
