Anna Mary Shattuck of Otsego passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in Kalamazoo. Mary was born August 22, 1928 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Benton and Ida (Gleason) Reid. For many years she was employed with Advance Meters and National Waterlift, now Parker, retiring in 1991. Mary enjoyed puzzles, word search, watching races and baseball. She raised American Eskimos and Yorkshire Terriers. Surviving are 2 sons and 2 daughters, Linde (Larry) Fitzpatrick of Kentucky, Ron Hofstra of Plainwell, Ricky D. Shattuck of Otsego and Penny (Z. Paul) Sugas of Plainwell; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Mae Mearing of TX (formerly of Paw Paw) and Dorothy (John) Koehler of TX; a brother-in-law, Lloyd Snyder of Otsego; several nieces, nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Clara Margaret Snyder, Virginia Reid and Georgia Reid. In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of Mary may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

Dorothy I. (Wicks) (Lukins) Cooper
Dorothy I. (Wicks) (Lukins) Cooper of Plainwell, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in Wayland. Mrs. Cooper was born November 2, 1922 in Bradley to August and Gertrude (Anderson) Kotrba. Dorothy was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, the Women of the Moose, and enjoyed trips to Sault St. Marie and mushrooming up north. She loved dancing, especially polkas. For many years she tended bar at Jim’s Tavern in Otsego. Surviving are three children, Bonnie (William) Gray of Wayland, Herbert (Bobbie) Wicks and Douglas (Marge) Wicks, both of Plainwell; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-granddaughter; 4 step-daughters. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Wicks in 1948, Max Lukins in 1965 and Darl Cooper in 2007, her brother, Eugene, and her sister, Barbara Jean. Friends may meet the family from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, Pastor Scott Fenner officiating. Burial will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Monday. Contributions in memory of Dorothy may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice.

George ‘Skip’ Marks of Vicksburg (formerly of Otsego) passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at his home. Skip was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 10, 1934 to George and Yolanda (Montagne) Marks. George attended Plainwell High School and in Otsego he met the first love of his life. In 1954 he and Rosalie (Jones) were united in marriage. They had four children, George P. Marks III of Kendall, Roger Marks, Ronnie Marks and Cindy (Kenny) McDonald all of Otsego. Skip lost Rose in 1986 to cancer. Skip met his second love and on April 9, 1988 was united in marriage to Diane (Walker). Skip inherited five more children, Angelina (Pat) Clark of Otsego, Tammie Walker of Plainwell, Wendy Bushard of Lansing, Michael (Tami) Walker and Paul Walker, both of Vicksburg. Skip worked for Root Van Lines, Kalamazoo Airport and the City of Kalamazoo before retiring in 1997 from the City of Otsego, after 18 years service. Skip liked to bowl with his buddies Don Newton, Dick Newton, Bill McCormick and George Channels. He also had a good friend, Bud Junker. Skip enjoyed his country music, especially Merle Haggard, NASCAR, football and was a Tiger baseball fan. He was an ardent supporter of the U.S. Navy and the N.R.A. He experienced being both an Otsego Bulldog and Vicksburg Bulldog. Skip was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Phil Marks, grandsons, Cory Stoughton and Mark Verploegh; several aunts and uncles. Skip is survived by his wife, Diane; 4 children and 5 step-children; an aunt, Sophia Davis of Detroit; many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Skip will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, with funeral celebrant Bill Rose officiating. Skip will be buried in MountainHomeCemetery, Otsego beside his first wife, Rose, and his father, whom he will be with again in Heaven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, who were wonderful.

Myrtle Y. Hill of Otsego, MI passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Myrtle was born November 10, 1925 in Otsego to George and Eva (Case) Hamilton. She attended Otsego Schools and was a graduate of Otsego High School. On July 4, 1946 in Otsego she married Robert ‘Bill’ Hill and they made their home in Otsego. Myrtle was employed by the First National Bank and for many years by the Otsego Public Schools as assistant to the Superintendent of Schools. She was a member of the Otsego Elks for many years. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband ‘Bill’ and her brother-in-law Dwight ‘Nick’ Nichols. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Deserie Hill of Paradise Valley, AZ, daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Donald Layton of Martin; 3 grandsons, Todd (Wanda) Pomeroy of Gold Canyon, AZ, Scott Layton of Cooper, Aaron Layton of Martin, several great-grandchildren; her sister Ovonah Nichols of Kalamazoo; nephew Greg (Nancy) Nichols of Vicksburg, niece Diane (Tom) Yore of Byron Center; several great nieces and nephews. Former daughter-in-law and dear friend, Sue Kovach of Kalamazoo; many nieces and nephews. Friends may meet with her family from 5-7 P.M. Monday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where a service will be held Tuesday, March 24 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to In Home Hospice Solutions or the Hospice of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Janet F. Quick of Otsego, Michigan, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ March 18, 2009. Janet was born November 7, 1948 in Allegan to Cecil and Wilma (VanderMeere) Dalrymple and was a lifelong resident of the area. For many years she was employed with Richard Allen, Inc. in Richland and Aspen Surgical Products in Grand Rapids. Janet faithfully attended the WatsonBibleChurch for many years. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, hiking and spending time with her family. On November 6, 1965 in WatsonTownship, she married Vern Quick, who survives. Also surviving are a son and two daughters, Russell (Tammy) Quick of Wayland, Lisa ( George) Meade and Lori (Matt) Greenman, both of Allegan; five grandchildren, Dustin, Shelby, Chelsea, Emily and Alexis; her mother, Wilma Dalrymple, of Otsego; two brothers, Gary Dalrymple and Cecil Dalrymple, both of Otsego. She was preceded in death by her father and by her brother, William Dalrymple. Friends may meet the family from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the WatsonBibleChurch, Pastor James Collison officiating. Burial will follow at HicksCemetery, WatsonTownship. Loy “Ken” Tiller of Prairieville Twp. Passed Away, Monday, March 16, 2009 in Kalamazoo. Ken Was Born December 31, 1940 in Kalamazoo, The Son of Robert And Mildred (Duniphan) Tiller. Ken Enjoyed Being With His Parents. His Mom Died in 1984 And His Father Cared For Him Until 1986. He Enjoyed Bowling, Spending Time With His Caretaker Rhea, Who Was Like a Second Mother For 22 Years, And His Friend Nancy. He is Survived BY His Brothers, Jerry (Joyce) Tiller of Pine Lake, Larry (Carol) Tiller of Richland And Don (Carol) Tiller of Mattawan; His Uncle Wayne; Several Nieces And Nephews And Great Nieces And Nephews And Cousins. He Was Preceded in Death BY His Parents And Several Aunts And Uncles. Visitation Will be Held on Friday at 10am Until The Time of The Funeral Service at 11am at The Winkel Funeral Home with Celebrant Bill Rose Officiating. Burial Will Take Place at Mt. Mary V. Girton, age 91, of Alamo Township, MI (formerly of Watson Twp. & Plainwell) passed away Friday, March 6, 2009 in Alamo. Mary was born February 15, 1918 in Van Buren Township, Pulaski Co, IN, the daughter of Chris and Hazel (Strong) Frazier. She was a Senior Companion for Kalamazoo Senior Services and a longtime Busy Worker at the Watson Church. Mary is survived by her children, Imogene LaFountain of Wayland, John (Ann) Girton, Jr. of Kalamazoo, Virginia (Joe) Roberts of Grand Haven and Kathy Maher of Martin; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, several aunts and many nieces and nephews.  Friends may meet the family from 10 A.M. Friday until the time of the service at 11:00 A.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home Otsego with Celebrant Bill Rose officiating. Contributions in memory of Mary may be made to the Alamo Nursing Home.
