Katherine J. ‘Kathy” Clark of Trowbridge Township passed away Friday, January 30, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Katherine was born in Alabama on April 26, 1949 to Wollie and Mary (Bea) Bumgart. Katherine loved to travel with her husband Bill to fishing tournaments. She liked to read, fish and watch home decorating shows. She also enjoyed wildlife and caring for her cats Boo and Smokey. On April 1, 1977 she married William Clark who survives. Also surviving are her mother, Mary, a sister Joan (Greg) Gregory, a brother Mike (Lori) Bumgart, a special niece Nicole (Larry) Sweeney and a special nephew Cody (Danna) Gregory. Other nieces Andrea Parsons and Michelle Wycoff and a nephew Michael Bumgart II; also the joys of her life, Isabelle, Gavin, Addison and her name sake Zoey Katherine. To them she was Grandma Kathy!  She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Lisa and her father Wollie. Friends may meet with her family from 4-7 P.M. Tuesday at Winkel Funeral Home, where a service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM Celebrant William Rose officiating. Memorial gifts can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Janice Y. Hemminger

Janice ‘Jan’ Hemminger of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009, in Plainwell. Jan was born January 9, 1942, in Talladega, Alabama to Mach and Bessie (Fuller) Patterson. She loved to do puzzles and coloring, enjoyed flowers, camping and especially her dog, “Lady”. On March 25, 1966 in Kalamazoo she married Alfred ‘Al’ Hemminger, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter and a son, Jennie (Mark) Gruber of Plainwell and Robby Hemminger of Otsego; two grandchildren, Joshua and Natalie Gruber; siblings, Jim Patterson of Kalamazoo, Robert Fuller of Alabama and Hazel Higgins of Delaware; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a sister, Helen Gold of Philadelphia. Friends may meet the family from 10 to 11 AM Saturday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Kevin Smith officiating. Burial will be at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Jan may be made to the American Diabetes Association Research Program.

Marie T. Proctor of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Woodside, Friendship Village. Mrs. Proctor was born April 9, 1922 in Moulton, Alabama to Henry and Mattie (Martin) Turner. Surviving are her brother, Henry “Al” (Diane) Turner; a niece, Michelle (Allen) Link and daughters Desiree and Nicole (Pat) Suyak; a nephew, Robert (Rachel) Turner and children Jack and Faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Proctor, and her brother, Herschel Turner. Friends may meet the family from 12:30 to 1 PM Saturday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego,
where funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Randy Burnett officiating. Private family burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell. Contributions in memory of Marie may be made to the memorial garden at Woodside or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.

Dale W. ‘Will’ Knobloch of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009 in Grand Rapids. Dale was born April 10, 1981 in Kalamazoo to Kevin and Dawn (Kidwell) Knobloch. He had attended AlleganHigh School, where he was active in football, basketball, baseball and tennis. For 8 years he lived in Florida and worked for Morgan Chase Bank and then as an insurance claims adjuster for USAA in Tampa, FL. He moved back to Michigan in December of 2006. Surviving are his mother and step-father, Dawn and Tom Berner of Otsego; his father and step-mother, Kevin and Jackie Knobloch of Florida; two half-brothers, Kevin Knobloch, Jr. of Otsego and Jason Knobloch of Florida; a step-brother, John Berner of Allegan; step-sister, Jenny (Dan) Weircz of Battle Creek; grandparents, Don and Rita Kidwell of Holland; step-grandparents, Bill and Jerry Berner of Otsego; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his cats, Goldilocks and Hemmingway. Dale was preceded in death by grandparents, Pearl Kidwell, Vern and Virginia Knobloch. Friends may meet the family from 5 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, with Funeral Celebrant, Mr. Bill Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Blackman Cemetery, Allegan. Margaret Marschall of Alamo Township passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009 in Alamo. Mrs. Marschall was born September 25, 1914 in St. Louis, MO to Michael and Marie (Foltz) Ortman. Margaret was a member of the Alamo Triangle Club, the Alamo Historical Society, and a long time participant in RSVP (a shut-in program). She loved to read and bake cookies for her grandchildren. Margaret also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, working outdoors, vegetable gardening and canning. On March 2, 1934, in Chicago she married Joseph Marschall, who died in 1981. Also preceding her in death were her parents; her son, Chris Marschall; a grandson, Chris Marschall; two brothers, Melvin Ortman and Joe Ortman; and a sister, Betty Wilde. Surviving are her son, Melvin (Linda) Marschall of Otsego; a daughter-in-law, Sue Marschall of Rockford; a granddaughter, Diane (Gene) Slater of Otsego; 5 great-grandchildren, Michael (Jen) Slater, Scott (Kim) Slater, Keri Slater, Kevin (Laura) Slater, Kristy (Travis) Taylor; 3 great-great-grandchildren, Madisyn and Kolton Slater, and Gage Fifelski; several nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 5 Sunday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, Pastor Bill Walker officiating. Burial will be at Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Contributions in memory of Margaret may be made to the Alamo Community Congregational Church or the Alamo Nursing Home.

Mrs. Imo B. Frost of Plainwell (formerly of Watson and Otsego Townships) passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009 with her family at her side. Mrs. Frost was born July 5, 1914 in Watson Township, the daughter of Frank and Bertha (Robinson) Zue. Imo grew up in Watson Township. She enjoyed being around people, visiting garage sales and the Goodwill store, bird watching and going for rides to watch the animals. She loved to crochet towels and give them away. On November 11, 1931 in Otsego, she married Claude B. Frost, who preceded her in death in 1984. Also preceding her in death were a great grandson, Joshua Miller, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, Ezra, Arthur and Walter Zue, Martha Star and Cynthia Oisten. Surviving are 1 daughter, Leone (Bob) Bellingar of Plainwell; 2 granddaughters, Shelley Cassada and Claudia Stewart, both of Plainwell; 8 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren. Friends may meet with her family from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where services will be held Thursday at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Joe Shaler officiating. Interment will be at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Memorial gifts may be made to the Borgess Foundation for Borgess Hospice.

Elaine B. Bohjanen

Elaine B. Bohjanen of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009 in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Bohjanen was born April 4, 1921 in Grand Rapids to Roscoe and Lottie (Wendrich) Warner. From 1942 to 1946, she worked in the General Motors Defense Plant. Her family and her faith were most important to Elaine. She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Elaine was a member of Peace Ev. Lutheran Church in Otsego. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cross country skiing, fishing, camping and watching cooking shows. On May 20, 1946 in Grand Rapids she married Arnold Bohjanen who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Robert (Virginia) Bohjanen of Kentwood, Douglas Bohjanen and David (Lori) Bohjanen, all of Kalamazoo; 5 grandchildren, Michael, Lindsay, April, Steven and Andrea; 1 great grandson, Andrew; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Warner and 2 sisters, Mildred Hull and Gladys Kenney. Friends may meet with her family from 4-7 P.M. Tuesday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Peace Ev. Lutheran Church, Otsego, Pastor Jason Thiel officiating. A committal service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at Rest Lawn Memorial Park, Grand Rapids. Memorial gifts can be made to the American Cancer Society or Peace Ev. Lutheran Church.

Robert J. Lovett of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Friday, January 23, 2009 in Kalamazoo. Mr. Lovett was born September 6, 1926 in Otsego to John and Grace (Stratton) Lovett. He was a 1944 graduate of Otsego High School and a Navy Veteran of World War II. For 23 years Bob was employed with Sears, retiring in 1987. Bob was very proud of his grandchildren. He enjoyed being out of doors, bird watching and fishing. For the 13 years they spent in Florida, he enjoyed the fishing on Lake Okeechobee.  On June 13, 1945 he married Lucille Wuis who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Sue (Larry) Martin and Sally (Medford) Starr both of Otsego;  4 grandchildren, Cherie (George) Owens, Ginger Foster, Kasey (Keith) Cogar, Todd (Anna) Starr; 9 great grandchildren, Kelsey, Jordan, Tyler, Justin, Jacob, Colin, Grace, Matthew & Lucas;1 brother, Lewis (Gladys) Lovett; 2 sisters-in-law, Margaret Lovett and Virginia Lovett; a brother-in-law, Morris Wuis; several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Calvin, Charles and Carl; 2 great granddaughters, Madeline and Kelly Cogar. Cremation will take place. A Memorial Service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church of Otsego with Pastor Joe Shaler and Pastor Dan Minor officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Otsego United Methodist Church stained glass window restoration fund.

Florence Alice Mathis of Otsego, Michigan passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Mathis was born February 24, 1934 in Herrin, IL, to Tellis and Rosa (Hancock) Moshos. For several years she was employed as a receptionist at Golden Scissors in Otsego. Florence enjoyed gardening, crafts, ceramics and interior decorating. On April 25, 1952 in Kalamazoo she married James Mathis, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Dexter Mathis and Steve (Pam) Mathis; a daughter, Cathy Mathis; 8 grandchildren, Melanie (Jason) Hooker, Mark Mathis, Mathew (Alesia) Mathis, Marsha Mathis, Jim Mathis, Ashley (Justin) Schneider, Cristina Mathis and Nick Mathis; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Lurlie) Adams; many nieces and nephews; and two daughter-in-law, Bonnie Janke and Deborah Smalla. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego where services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, Pastor Fred Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Florence may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.

Jackie Hesser of Gobles, Michigan passed away at his home on Friday, January 16, 2009 surrounded by his family. Mr. Hesser was born August 20, 1927 in Centralia, IL to Carl and Zelma (Sanders) Hesser. Jackie worked for Consumers Energy for 30 years retiring in 1983. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren and vacationing with his children when they were young. On November 12, 1954 Jackie married Violet Thompson who survives. Also surviving are four children, Cyndy Pawlicki of Kalamazoo, Garry Hesser of Gobles, Carl Hesser of Roscommon and Theresa (Steven) Borst of Plainwell; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and his sisters, Joanne (Elmer) Crawford of AZ and Phyllis Ruby of St. Louis, MO. Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Deborah in 1983 and his siblings, Jean Lavoi and Neil Malcom. His family would like to thank Wings of Hope Hospice, especially, Trish, Donna and Amanda. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 20th from 11:30 until the service begins at 1 P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home,Otsego. Rev. Fr. Donald P. Klingler celebrant. Military honors by V.F.W. Post #3030. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Wings of Hope Hospice.
