Roger A. Stull of Douglasville, GA (formerly of Otsego, MI) passed away Monday, June 30, 2008 with his family by his side after a short illness, Roger was born in Plainwell to Ronald and JoAnne (Miller) on February 23, 1952. He enjoyed bowling, watching the Young and the Restless, cartoons with his grandkids and the Sci-Fi- Channel. In November 1975 he married Linda (Shook) and had two wonderful children. In 1985 he and his family moved to Georgia where he was a pest control technician and later, along with his son, was a self-employed carpenter. He is survived by daughter Nicole (Michael) Cook and son Chris Stull, both of Douglasville; two grandchildren whom he adored, Mindy and Lani Stull, also of Douglasville. Also surviving are his mothers, June Stull and JoAnne Fussee.; one brother, Ronald (Marisa McNeely) Stull; one sister, Dawn (Robert) Cook; special nieces Shannon (Marcel) Anderson and Tonia (Brian) Fernander; nephew T.K. Montgomery; uncles Howard Stull and Chuck Williams; several other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald, and his sister, Vickie. Friends may meet the family from 12 to 2 and 4 to 6 P.M. Friday, July 4 at the Winkel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 5 at the United Methodist Church of Otsego with Pastor Joe Shaler officiating. Private burial will follow at Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Roger may be made to Winship Cancer Institute, Development Office, 1762 Clifton Rd., Plaza 1000, Atlanta, GA 30322

Mark Robert-William Verploegh died Thursday, June 19, 2008 in Otsego. Mark was born January 11, 1981 in Kalamazoo to Robert Verploegh and Angelina Walker and attended Otsego High School. His favorite hobbies were collecting Hot Wheels and WWII memorabilia and building model cars and airplanes. He loved baseball and was an avid Red Sox fan. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Angelina and Patrick Clark of Otsego; his father, Robert Verploegh of Parchment; his brother, David Verploegh of Parchment; a step-brother and step-sister, Brian Clark of Grand Rapids and Amanda Clark of Otsego; his grandparents, Diane and George Marks of Vicksburg and Barbara Verploegh of Parchment; a special niece, Saige Verploegh of Otsego; several other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and a long time friend, Ben Bloomquist of Otsego. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jacob Verploegh, and his grandmother, Barbara Clark. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, Mr. Bill Rose officiating. Graveside services will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Richard E. “Dick” Watson of Allegan, MI passed away Saturday, June 14, 2008 in Allegan. Dick was born July 19, 1925 in Otsego, the son of John and Gertrude (Hosler) Watson. He played the organ and also danced and sang, he loved cards, gardening, golf and had gone to Canada fishing for many years. Dick was a member and officer of the Otsego Fire Department, and was also a member of the Otsego Elks Club for many years and the Rotary Club. He had a coal yard for a short time and was the youngest manager of a Kroger Store at the age of 18, before opening Dick’s Grocery in 1950 then purchased Berry’s, Dalrymple’s and Pirrone’s Grocery Stores. He retired in 1971 due to his health. On January 1, 1944 in Otsego, he married his highschool sweetheart, Naila Sherwood who survives. Also surviving are their children, Linda (Joseph) Wahmhoff of Grand Junction, Ronald Watson of Otsego, John (Claudia) Watson of Holland, Debra (Ernie) Miller of Wayland; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters-in-law, Ida Sprague, Delberta Brundage, Gerene Cronen and Beverly Watson; many nieces, nephews and cousins including a special cousin William Punches. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Amos, Wally, Dean and Velma. Friends may meet with the family Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Winkel Funeral Home where services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 PM, Pastor Joe Spackman officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Allegan General Hospital CCU or to the Allegan United Methodist Church.

Betty J. Volker of Otsego, MI passed away Tuesday June 10, 2008. Mom was born November 2, 1924 in Otsego, Michigan. She was the unexpected fourth daughter of John and Alda (Brunner) Turner. She was a life long resident of Otsego and a graduate of OHS class of 43. Mom worked at “The Creamery” in Otsego until, in the early 80’s, it closed down, upon which she retired. She came out of retirement when she became a grandmother. That was the “job” she enjoyed the most of all. The promotion to great-grandma made her very happy, and she enjoyed that just as much. She was preceded in death in 2002 by her husband of 56 years, Edward. Mom was the last of her immediate family to pass on. Preceding her were her parents, John and Alda; her 3 sisters, Bernice, Beatrice and Bessie; and her “brother” Ira Johnson. She is survived by her son, Edward W. Volker II of Otsego; four grandchildren, Josiah Anthony Edward Volker, Matthew Wilson Edward Volker, Nicholas Leigh Volker and Samantha Lee Volker; 6 great-grandchildren, Dathan, Victoria, Korrigann, Madison, Warren and Jack; her “sister” Loena (Charlie) Matthews of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in law. Visitation will be Sunday, June 15th from 4 to 6 PM at Winkel Funeral Home where services will be held on Monday, June 16th at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Joe Shaler officiating. Graveside services at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego, will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to V.F.W. Post #3030.

Erline Turner of Otsego, Michigan died peacefully Monday, June 9, 2008 in Alamo. Mrs. Turner was born May 21, 1920 in Moulton, Alabama to Floyd and Essie (Harris) Turner. Erline loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She loved the Lord and listening to her grandson praying over dinner or at family gatherings. Erline enjoyed going to church, was a lifetime member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church and enjoyed listening to the Gaithers. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and shopping. On September 23, 1938 she married Ross Edward Turner, who died January 1, 1979. Also preceding her in death were a son, Floyd Gaylon Turner and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Betts. Surviving are two daughters, Nell (Mike) Vida of Enterprise, Alabama and Kerry (Ken, Sr.) Terry of Plainwell; grandchildren, Ken, Jr., Kandy, Katrina, Mickey, Kelly, Chris and Yanic; many great and great-great grandchildren; a brother, A.C. (Lavada) Turner of Decatur, AL; a sister, Eva Letson of Hillsborough, AL; many nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at Winkel Funeral Home where services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, with her grandson, Ken Terry, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego.

Robert D. Aernie, Sr., of Plainwell, Michigan, died Sunday June 8, 2008 in Kalamazoo. Mr. Aernie was born December 14, 1933 in Oshtemo to Clarence and Dorothy (Rose) Aernie. For many years he was employed with Clausing Industrial, retiring in 2004. Bob enjoyed fishing, watching Detroit Tigers baseball and doing yard work. In 1952, he married Velma (Spencer) Wiborn and they divorced. On May 7, 1966 in Kalamazoo he married the former Charlotte Morgan and they were married for 42 years. She preceded him in death on May 13, 2008. Surviving are 3 sons and 2 daughters, Robert Aernie, Jr. (Terri) Udilla, NE, Debra (Orbie) Brooks of Holland, Chuck Aernie of Mattawan, Joe (Joanne) Aernie of Langley, WA, Laurie (Peter) Hoag of Allegan; 2 step-daughters, Gaye Levian of Plainwell and Susan Morgan of Otsego; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Steve Aernie and 2 brothers, Raymond and Eugene Aernie. Friends may meet with his family from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where services will be held Thursday at 11:00 A.M., with his grandson David Levian officiating. Interment will be in West Cooper Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kent County Humane Society or the National Law Officers Memorial Fund.

Ellen L. Cosby of Otsego, Michigan died June 5, 2008 at her home. Mrs. Cosby was born October 18, 1942 in Allegan to Leo and Mildred (Davidson) Hall. Ellen was a graduate of OtsegoHigh School and WesternMichiganUniversity. For many years she was employed as a computer accountant with the Allegan County Road Commission, retiring in 2003. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the MartinUnitedMethodistChurch where she was active in the Christian Care and Share Team. In her leisure time she enjoyed bowling and golfing. Most important to Ellen was the love of family and helping others in need. On June 13, 1964 in Otsego she married Harold ‘Bill’ Cosby, who preceded her in death in 2004. Surviving are four children, Scott Cosby of Plainwell, Steven (Angela) Cosby of Allegan, David (Nicole) Cosby of Jenison and Diana (Lindsay Isaac) Cosby of Portage; four grandchildren, Keisha, Kory, Kathryn and Chloe; a great-grandson, Logan; her brother, Duane (Patsy) Hall of Holland; several nieces and nephews; and her dog, Sassy. She was also preceded in death by an infant sister. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at Winkel Funeral Home where services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, Rev. Chris Lane officiating. Burial will follow at East Martin Cemetery. Contributions in Ellen’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the March of Dimes.

Evelyn Bullard of Cooper Township passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2008 in Kalamazoo. Evelyn was born July 10, 1922 in AlmenaTownship, the daughter of Lovell and Freda (Blower) Clark. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, sewing and flower gardening. On February 23, 1945, she married Hubert Bullard and he preceded her in death in 1992. Also preceding her in death were her son, Daniel J. Bullard, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Merle and John Clark, Ruth Abramson and Erma Burnell. Surviving are several nieces and nephews; four sisters-in-law, Caroline Clark, Mary Clark, Dorothy Muller and Hazel Bullard. A memorial service will be held at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego on Friday, June 20, 2008 at 1:00 P.M., Mr. Vernon Spears officiating. Interment of ashes will be at HillsideCemetery, Plainwell. Memorial contributions can be made to Rose Arbor Hospice.

Vincent H. Weller of Otsego Township died Monday, June 2, 2008, at his home. Mr. Weller was born November 4, 1914 in Vera, Saskatchewan, Canada to Louis and Lela (Baldwin) Weller. He retired from Eaton Corp. in 1977. Vince was a life member of V.F.W. Dad’s Post #56. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, traveling and hunting for rocks, cutting and polishing them. On September 28, 1996 in Otsego he married Donna (Rose) Weller, who survives. Also surviving are 5 children, Joan (Ron) McComb of Dowling, Sandy (Bob) Martin of Galva, IL, Louis (Diane) Weller of Rockford, IL, Rich (Kathy) Weller of Hastings and Steve Weller of Alto; 10 grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; 2 step- daughters, Misty (Mark) Bottorff and Kristy (Andrew) Brooks; 1 step grandchild; a sister, Beulah Ayers; a brother, Raymond Weller; and his health care aides, Ruth Barlett, Jennifer Graves and Amy Churchill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae Weller, in 1994, also 3 grandchildren, 1 brother and 2 sisters. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the V.F.W. Post #3030, 124 N. Farmer St., Otsego.. Memorial contributions may be made to his family for expenses.

Mary J. Forstner of Allegan, Michigan, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2008 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Mary was born August 14, 1958 in Princeton, KY, the daughter of Johnny and Nancy (Triplett) Smith. She had worked at several area nursing homes and then at home raising her children and working with her husband on their blueberry farm. Mary was a loving and caring woman who enjoyed her family and helping others. She was known to take in injured animals and nurse them back to health. In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, crocheting, writing and playing bingo. On February 14, 1976 in CascoTownship she married Joseph Forstner, who survives. Also surviving are her children, Mary (Scott) Musselman of Union City, Angela Struntz of WA, Michael Forstner and Sarah Jones both of Allegan, and Marcy Lautenschleder of Hudsonville; her mother and step-father, Nancy (Darrel) Pritt; siblings, Charles Chastain, Cherie Cunningham, Angie Chastain and Darrel Pritt Jr. She was preceded in death by her father, her sister Misty Brown and by her brother Ransom Chastain. Friends may meet with her family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Friday at Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where a service will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M., Rev. Gail Pike officiating. Interment will be in Mallory Cemetery.
