Rose Mary (Augustine) Hockett of Otsego passed away Monday, November 27, 2006 in Allegan. Rosemary was born January 2, 1925 to Tom and Sophia (Shagonabe) Peters. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Jesse and Martha Scofield. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Otsego where she was a Sunday school teacher, Secretary/Treasurer of her True Blue Class and helped with Awana. Rosemary is survived by a daughter Linda Sherwood of Plainwell, 2 sons Ronald (Marla) Augustine of Plainwell and Richard (Toni) Augustine of Allegan. She is also survived by special sisters-in-law Betty (Bob) Barber, Ruth Barber, Marie Hayes and Betty Augustine; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews and relatives in the U.P. and the Ann Arbor area. Preceding Rosemary in death were husbands, Bud Augustine and Orville Hockett; son-in-law Bud Sherwood; 2 grandsons and her Uncle George Shagonabe. Friends may meet the family from 5 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego where services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday with Rev. Tom Boland officiating. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wings of Hope Hospice.

Wayne E. Meade of Delton died Monday, November 27, 2006. Wayne was born August 5, 1949 in Allegan, the son of Eugene and Joyce (Brown) Meade. For over 23 years, he was employed with the Stryker Corporation. Wayne loved to attend auctions, visit the casino and sell at flea markets. He was preceded in death by his wife Grace (Weilinga) in 1994 and his father in 1986. Surviving are a son and a daughter, Jason Arthur Meade of Mackinac Island and Jeannette Marie Meade of Allegan; 3 grandchildren, Dustin, Grace and Marcus; his mother, Joyce Kolbeck of Otsego; 1 sister and 6 brothers, Michael (Chris) Meade of Allegan, Linda (Richard) Hermenitt of Delton, Harry (Kathy) Meade of Allegan, Herbert (Theresa) Meade of Allegan, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Meade of Plainwell, Larry (Helen) Meade of Shelbyville, George (Lisa) Meade of Allegan; many nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego on Friday from noon until the time of service at 1:00 P.M., Pastor Raymond Joe Brown officiating. Interment will be in Hicks Cemetery, Watson Township. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Margaret Rogers of Otsego, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2006 in Plainwell, the last surviving sibling of her family. Margaret was born February 16, 1913 in Kalamazoo to James and Cecilia (Hayden) Johnson. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central in 1929 and attended Western Teachers Normal School. Margaret was a member of Eastern Star #169, Queen Esther, the First Congregational Church of Otsego and the Ladies Guild. She served as Sunday School Superintendent and as a teacher. She enjoyed reading and traveling, especially to Alaska and Israel. On June 30, 1934 in Otsego she married William “Al” Rogers who preceded her in death in1973. Surviving are a daughter, Faith Burleigh of Otsego and a son William “Bill” (Betty) Rogers Jr. of Kalamazoo; 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Babette) Burleigh, Roger Burleigh, Andrea (Carl) Hallett, Laurie St. Clair and Todd Rogers; 10 great-grandchildren, a nephew and several nieces. Also preceding her in death were her siblings Ellsworth, James, Juanita and Alice and a son-in-law Alva Burleigh. Friends may meet the family from 7-9 P.M. Wednesday at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego. Funeral  services will be held Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at the First Congregational Church of Otsego with Pastor Don Ray officiating. Cremation will follow. Memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Otsego or the Otsego District Public Library.

Julia Lee Vagasky of Alamo Twp., MI passed away Friday, November 24, 2006 in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Vagasky was born February 24, 1917 in Mount Victory, OH to Paul and Gay (McKim) Friedly. Julia Lee was very active in the Methodist Church. She was an animal lover and especially loved her family. Julia Lee was everyone’s friend and all who met her loved her. In December of 1946 in Columbus, OH she married Michael Vagasky who preceded her in death in 1996. Surviving are two sons and a daughter, Bill (Sandra) Vagasky of Otsego, Mark (Deborah) Vagasky of Delaware, OH and Lynn (John) Kinch of Ortonville, MI; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at the Price Funeral Home, 152 Main St., Dunkirk, Ohio. Friends may meet the family beginning at 1:30 PM Tuesday. Burial will follow at Dunkirk Cemetery. Contributions in Julia Lee’s memory may be made to Kalamazoo Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 3295, Kalamazoo, MI 49003.

Veronica Kay (Kibby) Hall of Gobles passed away Thursday, November 23 2006 in Gobles. Veronica was born March 27, 1960 in Flint to Thomas and Ernestine (Folts) Kibby. She was a loving mother who enjoyed looking at the stars, walking and animals. Veronica is survived by her son, Kyrel; 2 grandchildren Abigail and Kyrel Jr.; a sister Joanne (William) Suydam and a half sister Kristin Castro both of Grandville; her loving partner, Hector Trevino of Gobles; her dad James Painter; her dog, Lady; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her father Thomas Kibby and her mother Ernestine (Folts) Painter, a brother Thomas Kibby and an infant sister Karla Kibby. Friends may meet the family from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego, MI. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 1 P.M. at Flint Memorial Cemetery in Flint, Michigan. Memorial donations may be made to her family for expenses.

L.D.  Saunders
L. D. Saunders of Hobe Sound, FL went to be with the Lord Thursday, November 23, 2006. Mr. Saunders was born December 19, 1938 in Kalamazoo to Leland and Bessie (Clemmens) Saunders and had been a long time resident of the area. He had served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. For about 10 years he had owned and operated Saunders Concrete Construction and Pools in Cooper. L. D. enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, puttering in his woodshop, landscaping, gardening and feeding the birds. On January 10, 1957 in Cooper he married Eva Rice, who died in 1999. He was also preceded in death by his father and by an infant brother, Timothy. Surviving are one daughter and four sons, Kymberly Hampton of Alamo, Mick (Sheila) Saunders of Plainwell, Rocky (Suzanne) Saunders of Otsego, Lonnie (Mary) Saunders of Kalamazoo and Tag (Theresa) Saunders of the Philippines; 19 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his mother, Bessie Saunders of Hobe Sound, FL; one sister and two brothers, Romalee Robinson of Florida, Larry Saunders of Kalamazoo and Doug Saunders of Florida; a brother-in-law, Jerry Rice of Shipshewana, IN; several nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Plainwell with Pastor Thomas Pace officiating. Burial will follow at WestCooperCemetery. Contributions in memory of L. Maxine Cam-Suthland of Otsego, MI passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2006 in Kalamazoo. Maxine was born in January 19, 1922 to Frank and Lucille (McCallum) Rose in Mattawan. She had delivered Meals on Wheels and drove people for ACRDC. Maxine enjoyed cooking, bowling, sewing, gardening and was member of Ladies Auxiliary Post 3030 VFW. Surviving are 2 daughters, Sandra (Elmer) Evink and Marcia (Dick) Quick both of Otsego; 9 grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; a sister Annette VanAntwerp; several nieces and nephews and longtime friend Sam Trudell. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Leonard Cam and Robert Sutherland; a brother Arvard, daughter Connie Lumbert and great-granddaughter Madison Evink. Cremation has taken place according to her wishes. A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date.

Joseph Gauthier of Plainwell, MI passed away suddenly, Tuesday, November 21, 2006. Joe was born September 1, 1960 in Plainwell, the son of Joe and Beverly (Barber) Gauthier. For the past nine years Joe was employed with Perrigo’s of Allegan. He enjoyed coaching rocket football, was an assistant defensive coach for the Jaguars football team and was an assistant coach for the boy’s tennis team. Joe’s passion was making homemade wine and every September he took a group out to pick grapes.  He loved to watch his children at any sports activity they participated in.  He enjoyed the yearly camping and fishing trips to Dublin. In the fall, you could always count on a Friday night bonfire at his home. On May 22, 1982, he married Jeanne Holmes, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Ben (Tracy) Gauthier of California, Tim Gauthier and Danielle Cobble of Plainwell, Rachel Gauthier of Allegan; his grandson, Thor. Joe had a special place in his heart for Max. Also surviving are his mother, Beverly Gauthier of Otsego; 9 sisters and brothers, Kim (Glenn) Merica of Plainwell, Suzanne Burmeister of Plainwell, George (LuAnne) Gauthier of Kalamazoo, Gary Gauthier of Otsego, Sherry Gauthier of Plainwell, Natalie Gauthier of Plainwell, Jackie (Rob) Bryan of Otsego, Sally (Bill) Sunnerville of Otsego, Diane ‘Dee’ Edney of Otsego; his in-laws Ron and Donna Holmes and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Gauthier and his grandparents, George and Nettie Gauthier and Carl and Helen Barber.  Friends may meet the family from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where a Rosary Service will be held at 7 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret’s Church, Otsego will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00 A.M., Rev. Father Donald P. Klingler, Celebrant. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Otsego Rocket Football.

Richard M. ‘Shark’ Campbell of Plainwell, MI passed away Friday, November 17, 2006 at his home. Mr. Campbell was born September 11, 1945 in Plainwell to Russell and Marion (Brown) Campbell and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was employed with Plainwell Paper Co. as a millwright machinist, retiring in 2000 after 35 years of service. Shark was a member of the Gun River Conservation Club, the NRA, and Ducks Unlimited. He was a collector and story teller and enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica and making crafts. On December 8, 1973 in Otsego he married Marilyn Nyberg, who survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Pam (Lenny) Bierma, Dianna (Terry) Sturman, Patty Fitzpatrick, Jamie (Roger) Austin and Sheila (Don) Iszler; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Linda) Campbell and Dwayne (Priya) Campbell; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Rick Campbell; and two brothers, Skip and Russell Campbell. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, Rev. Dan Minor officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell. Dorothy M. ‘Dot’ Knight of Otsego passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2006 in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Knight was born November 9, 1918 to Homer and Daisy (Tilley) McDonald and was a lifelong resident of the area. For many years she was employed with the Coating Mill and retired from North American Aluminum. Dot was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Otsego. She enjoyed league bowling for over 50 years and golfing. On June 24, 1937 in Otsego she was married to Claude Knight, who died in 1991. Also preceding her in death were two daughters, Sandra Sparks and Sharon Kellogg; two sons-in-law, Bill Bell and Paul Staley; her brothers, William, George, Carl and Bob McDonald, and her twin brother and sister, Lee and Lena McDonald. Surviving are six daughters and two sons, Sally Staley of Idlewild, Bonnie Bell, Barbara (Bernard) Livingston, Daryl (Kathy) Knight and Bruce (Deb) Knight, Valerie (Mike Dalrymple) Vandervort, Brenda Kling and Wendy (Russell) Tompkins, all of Otsego; two sons-in-law, Donald Sparks and Del Kellogg; 36 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Donna Knight of Otsego, and her sister, Jean (Donald) Marks of Kentucky; a sister-in-law, Mildred McDonald of Allegan; many nieces and nephews.
