Luann  Vander Ploeg

Luann “Lani” Vander Ploeg of Kalamazoo died Monday, October 30, 2006. Lani was born March 19, 1958 to Gary and Winona (Smith) VanderVeen. Lani was graduated from Otsego High School and was employed with SBC for the past 6 years doing line repair. She loved being with and helping others, working on cars, snowmobiling and motorcycling. Surviving are two sons, Scott Vander Ploeg of Paw Paw and Tom Vander Ploeg of Kalamazoo and their father John Vander Ploeg of Kalamazoo; her parents; two sisters and a brother, Cindy (Hall) Taylor of Bartlesville, OK, Rick (Cheryl) VanderVeen of Galesburg and Vicki (Scott) Williquete of Rockford, IL; several nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family from 6 to 8 P.M. today at theWinkel Funeral Home, Otsego,where services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, Pastor Scott Williquette officiating. Interment will follow at Alamo Center Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Lani may be made to ALS of Michigan (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

Marilyn F. Hinkle
Marilyn F. Hinkle of Otsego passed away Sunday, October 29, 2006 in Plainwell. Mrs. Hinkle was born March 27, 1926 in Hillsdale, MI to Frank and Virgie (Palmer) Stiles. Marilyn was a member of P.E.O. Chapter ED, the First Congregational Church and the Ladies Guild, Friends of the Library and golfed on a league for many years. She also belonged to bridge and pinochle clubs; was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting baby blankets and afghans. Marilyn was a great listener and encourager, a devoted grandmother and cared deeply for her many friends. On November 23, 1943 in Hillsdale she married Jack Hinkle, who died in 1998. Also preceding her in death were her son, Ron Hinkle; three sisters and a nrother, Margaret Cuyler, Ken Stiles, Norma Rose and Shirley Sawdey. Surviving are a son and a Daughter, John (Pat) Hinkle of Mattawan and Connie Obreiter of Otsego; Daughter-in-law Deanna Hinkle of Otsego; 9 grandchildren; Ronda (Jeff) Conner, Isaac (Sara) Hinkle, John (Heather) Hinkle, Carly (Phillip) Kissinger, Luke Hinkle, Dan Hinkle, Susie Hinkle, Nate Hinkle and Amy Hinkle; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a special cousin Gloria. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Winkel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 P.M. Thursday at the First Congregational Church of Otsego with Pastor Don Ray officiating. Cremation will follow with burial of ashes at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Marilyn may be made to the First Congregational Church or the Otsego District Public Library.

Shenia A. “Shortie” Saldana passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2006 in Allegan. Shenia was born October 26, 1953 in Allegan to Terrance and Alma (Hampton) Miller. She enjoyed gardening, dogs, birds and deer. She is survived by her daughters Tara and Sonya and a granddaughter Hannah; 3 brothers and a sister; Jody Miller, Wyatt Miller, Tonya (James) Stewart and Terry Miller; a niece Tasha Mitchell and many more nieces and nephews; an uncle Lonnie (Carol) Hampton; she is also survived by her longtime companion Rick Stewart. Shenia was preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents Fred and Transel Hampton. A graveside service will be held Friday at 3 P.M. at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. memorial donations may be made to the family for funeral expenses.

Richard  Tripp

Richard Tripp passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at his home with family by his side. Mr. Tripp was born January 12, 1927 in Ireton, Iowa to Edward and Katherine (Hoverda) Tripp. For many years he was employed with Waanders Concrete as a crane operator, retiring in 1973. Richard was a member of the Allegan Seventh Day Adventist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. On June 25, 1948 in Grand Rapids he married Nellie Belknap, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Ronald Tripp, Philip Tripp, Mary (Dave) Summers, Jonathan Tripp and Charles (Karen) Tripp; his grandchildren, Jim Tripp, Mindy (Kirtis) Carpenter and Scott Tripp; great-grandchildren, Sierra Tripp, Julie, Alec, Joel and Justin Carpenter; his brother and sister, Francis Tripp and Donna Mae Williams; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Michael, William and Carl and Sisters, Sena Riklefs, Martha Spaulding and Cora Tripp. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday October 23, 2006 at Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego with Pastor Don Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Richard may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice.

Charles W. Cook passed away Saturday, October 6, 2006. Charles was born August 15, 1916 in Allegan, the son of Earl and Genevieve (Styles) Cook. Surviving are a son Gary Cook; a daughter, Charlene Daleiden; a granddaughter, Tracey Cook; a niece, Teresa ‘Terri’ Fairfield; a nephew, Robert Goodacre. He was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Goodacre.  A graveside service will be held Friday at 11:30 AM at Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan, Pastor Joe Spackman officiating.
