William Burd

William E. ‘Bill’ Burd, Sr. of Hart, Michigan (formerly of Gull Lake) died Monday, July 30, 2012 in Hart. Bill was born August 2, 1931 in Doster, MI to Ernest and Lois (Sanders) Burd. An Otsego High School graduate, he had served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion in Ludington. For over 30 years he was employed with DeHaan Heating & Cooling in Kalamazoo. Upon his retirement he moved to Hart. In his leisure time he was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Surviving are 5 children, Bill (Gayle) Burd, Jr. of Hart, James Burd of Saline, MI, Celinda Matamoros of Summerfield, FL, Jay (April) Burd of Wayland and Brad (Suzan) Burd of Richland; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister and 3 brothers, Velma Todd, Melvin Burd and Jerry (Cheryl) Burd, all of Otsego and Richard (Jeanne) Burd of Martin; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Burd; 2 sisters-in-law, Marie Burd and Eloise Burd; and a brother-in-law, Mark Todd.

Friends may meet Bill’s family beginning at 12:00 Noon Thursday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, with funeral celebrant Bill Rose officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta.

Contributions in memory of Bill may be made to the Ludington American Legion.
