Theresa Anna Newman of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009 in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Newman was born January 29, 1927 in Kalamazoo to Henry and Anna (Gernaat) Helmens. After graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School she worked for Shell Oil Co. and then was employed with Bosma Painting Company (now H & H) for over 30 years. Theresa enjoyed fishing, especially bluegills or anything she could catch. She was an avid Tiger Baseball and Detroit Pistons fan. On November 16, 1946 in Kalamazoo she married Carl Newman, who preceded her in death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her son, Donald Newman and a great-granddaughter, Brookelyn. Surviving are her son Dennis (Marcie) Newman of Allegan; five grandchildren, Charlie Newman, Shauna Averill, Andy Newman, Jason Newman and Jennifer Newman; 7 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Lois Huffman of Missouri. Friends may meet with her family on Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday with funeral celebrant Bill Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain HomeCemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Theresa may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice.
