Russell Walters of Augusta (formerly of Otsego) passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the V.A.Medical Center in Battle Creek. Russ was born June 8, 1928 in Otsego, MI, the son of Henry and Tena (VanDerVeer) Wolters, Sr. He grew up in Otsego and graduated from Otsego High School. During the Korean War, Russell served his country in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. Russ is survived by his 2 daughters, Marilyn (Wayne) Wysocki of Valparasio, IN and Diane (Don) Simerly of Spring, TX;  grandson and granddaughter, David Simerly of Spring, TX and Dana Simerly of Dallas, TX; step-grand daughter and step-grandson Stephanie Wysocki of Highland, IN and Thomas Wysocki of Chicago, IL;  3 brothers, Clyde (Evelyn) Walters of Kalamazoo, Elmer (late-Wilma) Walters of Otsego and Ernest (Betty) Wolters of Mt. Pleasant; 2 Sisters, Hattie (late-Cecil) Burdick of Allegan and Flossie (late-Ron) Wesler of Gobles; many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved “Uncle Rut” very much, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers Henry, Jr. (Madge), John (Lorraine) and Floyd Walters; 2 sisters Mildred (Ellsworth) Hurlbut and Dorothy (Gene) Benedict. Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes. Friends may meet with his family on Friday, April 17, 2009 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 AM at the Winkel Funeral Home Otsego, Pastor Joe Shaler officiating. Military Honors by V.F.W. Post #3030 and burial of ashes will be at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the VA Medical Center – Palliative Care Unit, Battle Creek, MI.
