John Herman Kruizenga of Plainwell, Michigan, was born into eternal life on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. The son of Herman and Gertrude (Werkman) Kruizenga, John was born in Kalamazoo on February 28, 1915. On July 13, 1939, in Muskegon he married Genevieve Jeannot, who preceded him in death in 2004. After two years of employment at Atlas Press of Kalamazoo he became a mechanical engineer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in New Hampshire where he worked from 1940 until 1957. He moved his family back to Kalamazoo and was employed as an inspection engineer with Ingersoll in Kalamazoo, and later at the Logistic Center in Battle Creek, retiring in 1972. John was an avid reader and gardener, was interested in history and nature, and was a lifelong birdwatcher and member of the Audubon Society. He enjoyed family tent camping vacations and persevered as a fisherman. He was a member of St. Joseph, St. Monica and St. Margaret Catholic churches. John and his wife were dedicated members of the Legion of Mary. John was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his children, John A. Kruizenga of Plainwell, Mary (Ken) Kochany of Bay City, Jeanne (Dennis) Fitzgerald of Battle Creek and Helen Watson of Kalamazoo; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a cousin, Jeannette Sportel of Kalamazoo; and a brother-in-law, George Jeannot of Seattle. Friends may meet with the family Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 P.M.. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Otsego, Rev. Fr. Donald P. Klingler celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Margaret’s Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of John may be made to Right to Life of Michigan or St. Margaret’s Church.
