Louis D. ‘Louie’ Keith of Plainwell, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, February 20, 2010, with his family by his side. Louie was born June 29, 1920 in Plainwell, the son of Dale and Catherine (Goss) Keith. He was a lifelong resident of Plainwell and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Otsego where he served as Deacon. Louie served as Staff Sargeant in the armed forces during WWII in the 874th Bomb Squadron, and flew 26 missions over Japan. He was employed with Montgomery Wards from 1972 until his retirement in 1985, then started Keith’s Sewing and Vacuum with his son Jeff and worked in that business for 18 years. On September 6, 1941, he married Marcelline Weaver who preceded him in death. Louis is survived by his second wife, Tyna Rutgers, whom he married on March 29, 1986; his children, Thomas (Debbie) Keith of Lake Charles, LA, Dennis (Patti) Keith of Joliet, IL, Kathleen (Dan) Hughes of Plainwell, Charlotte ‘Cindi’ (Paul) Hammond of Plainwell, Jeff (Tanya) Keith of Otsego, George (Michelle) Rutgers of Farwell, Virginia Rutgers of Plainwell; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren. Besides his first wife Marcelline, he was preceded in death by his parents, 1 great-grandchild, 2 brothers, Milo and Robert Keith and a sister Irene Fox. Friends may meet with his family Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home Otsego. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Otsego, Pastor Merlyn Jones and Mr. William Rose officiating. Interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell with military honors conducted by VFW Post #3030 and the National Guard.
