He was born November 28, 1920 in Kalamazoo the son of Robert and Helen (Gordon) Brewer. He was a 1939 graduate of Martin High School. Paul served his county in the US Army during World War II. After his discharge he farmed with his father for a short time and then was a door to door salesman for the Watkins Co. In 1954 he started working for Sears Roebuck in Battle Creek and then transferred to Kalamazoo where he sold appliances for over 30 years until his retirement at age 62. Paul was very proud of his military service and enjoyed following the Detroit Tigers, spending time with his grandchildren and listening to classical music. He was always quick to point out his Scotch heritage and he loved to negotiate a good deal. Paul’s farm is a centennial family farm, his family was among the first to settle the Martin area over 170 years ago. On October 2, 1954 in Fulton he married Ann Randall. He and Ann were longtime members of Martin Reformed Church until they transferred membership to Allegan Wesleyan Church. His church meant a great deal to him, he enjoyed studying the scriptures and was very knowledgeable about the Holy Bible.

Surviving are his wife, Ann; their children, P. Edward (Melody) Brewer of Otsego, Ina Jo Brewer of Battle Creek and Philip (Gwen) Brewer of Martin; 4 grandchildren, Lindsey (Dave) Brewer and Adam, Kristin and Rachel Brewer; 2 great-grandchildren, Payton and Carson; his brother, Gordon (Lorraine) Brewer of Holland; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marjorie VanReenen.

    Phil, Gwen, Ann:
So sorry to hear of your loss. I’ll always have fond memories of the many afternoons in the ’70’s at the Brewer house playing with hot wheels, slotcars, and the only left-handed catcher’s mitt I’ve ever seen. Paul was always an easygoing presence, and I absorbed as much Tiger baseball history as I could from him.
