Michael Haessig

Michael Haessig of Otsego, Michigan passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013 in Allegan. Mr. Haessig was born October 28, 1923 in Kalamazoo, the son of Eugene and Melinda (Porter) Haessig. He was a Navy veteran of WW II. Michael worked at KVP, then Brown, then James River from 1941-1986, retiring as a foreman. He was a life member of the Otsego Elks, the Moose, the American Legion and the VFW Post #3030. He enjoyed softball, bowling, golfing, fishing, camping and traveling and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.

On November 8, 1941 in Bloomingdale he married Gertrude Pauline Marks who preceded him in death in 2012. Surviving are 3 children, Lana (Daryl) Lucas of Ada, Patricia Crawford of Portage and Terri Bazzi of Vicksburg; 4 grandchildren, Steve, Scott, Mindy and Manal; 8 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a grandson Rex Ellis; 4 sisters, Margaret, Betty, Sara and Annie; 2 son-in-laws, Greg Crawford and Denny Babbitt.

Friends may meet with his family on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 10-11 A.M. until the time of the service at 11:00 A.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego with Pastor Kevin Sullivan officiating. Military Honors will be presented by VFW Post #3030 and the Navy Reserve. Burial will follow at 2 P.M. at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Kalamazoo.
