Joseph Swoboda

Joseph Jacob “Joe” Swoboda was born on August 3, 1935, to Edward Francis and Julia Marie (Klocek) Swoboda. He was raised on a farm in Northern Michigan and attended Boyne City schools. In 1958 he married his sweetheart, June Hermenitt, at St. Margaret’s Church in Otsego.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years and three sons, James (Lori) and their children Emily and Jacob; Jerry (Judi) and sons A.J. and Luke; Jeffery and sons, Adam (Brittany) and Ryan. Also surviving is his sister, Marie Macaulay of Davison, MI, and brother-in-law, Leon Nemecek.

Joe was pre-deceased by his parents; sister, Joann Nemecek; brother, Robert who died in infancy; and brother-in-law, Michael Macaulay.

Joe was a lifelong wood worker. He especially liked making oak furniture. He loved music and played accordion in a four piece dance band back in the late 50s. Also, Joe was honored to be an organist of St. Margaret’s Church for 26 years. His favorite times were Sunday dinners with the family around the dinner table.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Monday at St. Margaret’s Church, Otsego, Fr. James O’Leary celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joe may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
