Eula M. Smith of Plainwell, MI passed away Friday, February 11, 2011 in Plainwell. Mrs. Smith was born May 1, 1937 in McGee, MO the daughter of Sherman and Edna (Rodgers) Barks. Eula married Clyde Smith in MO on November 5, 1955.

Early in her life Eula had worked for Gibson Guitar; in 1989 she worked at Big Top in Plainwell for a short time before going to work at MI State Tech at Pine Lake where she worked for 12 years until her retirement in 2002. She was an active member of the Friendship Wesleyan Church in Plainwell. Eula was also a member of the Red Hat Society, the Otsego Moose Lodge, several quilting clubs and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Allegan Co. Sheriff’s Dept. Mounted Division. She was a great wife and mother and a wonderful grandmother.

She is survived by 3 children, Rick (Linda) Smith of FL, Vickie (Jeff) Slunick of Plainwell and Lisa (Bruce) Chapman of MO; 7 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; her siblings, Louise and Marvin both of MO; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde in 1989 and by her parents.

Friends may meet with the family Monday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, MI where services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Kevin Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell.

Memorials may be left to Friendship Wesleyan Church.

    We are so sorry to hear about the sudden passing of your mom. We had stopped to see Cindy Wuis Waldron and she told us about it. Although no words can really help to ease the loss of your mom, just know that all of you are very close in our every thought and prayer. Your mom will be dearly missed by all that loved and knew her. She was a very special woman.

    To the Family of Eula, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I worked at MCTI while Eula was there. She was a real gem. Eula was not afraid to say what she thought; a trait that I love in others. She was an honest, hard working person. She obviously was a wonderful Wife and Mother. She was certainly a loyal friend. She was so proud of all of you, children and grandchildren. Now she will be with Clyde. What a homecoming that must have been!

    To Eula’s family, I won’t be able to get to the funeral home as we have a Dr’s appointment. I met Eula at the Island City Quilt Guild, and, dearly well fell in love with her, who would not? Enough said!
    My husband and I are sending a memoriun in Eula’s name to the Cardiac Research unit at the University of Michigan. Our prayers are with you, as , I know she has prayed for me and my family. Sharon
