Elise G. Dorothy

Elise G. Dorothy
Elise G. (Koch) Dorothy of Otsego, Michigan, passed away April 24, 2009, after a long battle with diabetes. Elise was born October 31, 1929 in Bremen, Germany. In October, 1949, she married Richard K. Dorothy and moved to the United States, settling initially in Newton, Iowa, where she became a U.S. citizen shortly thereafter; then moving later to Otsego. Elise and Richard were well known in the Otsego-Plainwell area as publishers of The Otsego Union from the late 50s until the late 70s and later The Otsego Union Enterprise, after purchasing The Plainwell Enterprise and combining the papers. Active and with a wide circle of friends, Elise enjoyed a number of hobbies, including music, bowling, flower gardening, dancing, swimming and summer days of Lake Michigan beaches, reminiscent of her youth, growing up near the North Sea in her native Germany. She is survived by her daughter, Kim (Mrs. Gary) Blagg of Otsego; her son, Rick (with wife, Jan) Dorothy of Pullman; grandchildren Jon Paul, Richard, Heather, Nicholas and Aaron; and her brother, Ernst Koch, of Fair Oaks, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 1988; her mother, Gerhardine (Dirks) Koch and her father, Ernest Koch. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 pm Sunday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where a service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, officiated by Mark Minegar, Pastor of Calvary Community Church. Interment will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego.
