Shirley Livingston passed away Friday, December 31, 2010, in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Livingston was born October 14, 1926 in Otsego to Burrell and Ruby (Day) Bushee and was a lifelong resident of the area. On February 6, 1945 she married Stephen “Steve” Livingston. They were married 3 weeks short of 65 years. Steve passed away Jan. 19, 2010. She and her husband Steve had lived at Pine Lake since building their house there in 1957. Shirley and Steve enjoyed traveling, Sunday family potlucks and rides on their pontoon on the lake. They spent 24 years wintering in Florida.
Shirley loved being around family and friends and watching Emma and Hannah play and grow. She enjoyed playing cards, eating out and an occasional casino trip. In younger years she was an active member of the Pine Lake Hospital Guild. Surviving Shirley are her daughter Deb (Steven) Taggett of Alamo; two grandsons, Keith (Tori) Taggett and their daughters Emma and Hannah of Kalamazoo; Kevin Taggett and his fiancée Neta Saldivar of Plainwell; a brother Leon (Myrtle) Bushee of Annandale, VA; many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; sister, Marian Abasse and brother, Carl (Bob) Bushee. The family will receive friends Monday from 5-8 P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where services will be held Tuesday at 1 P.M.
Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell. Contributions in memory of Shirley may be made to the American Heart Association.

Marian G. Bruner of Plainwell, Michigan, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2010, in Plainwell. Mrs. Bruner was born April 7, 1919, in Kalamazoo to George and Clara (Ellis) Doxey. Marian was a 1937 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. On August 16, 1940, she married Jesse Bruner, who died in 1995. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Helen Putman and Nellie Bogar; and an infant brother. Surviving are a daughter and a son, Barbara (Jim) Gaudio of Plainwell and William ‘Bill’ (Bonnie) Bruner of Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren, Jeffrey (Michele) Gaudio, Traci Bruner, Jodi Pio, B. J. (Jamie) Bruner, Bryan (Jenny) Bruner and Tricia (Derrick) Wall; seven great-grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews. Marian’s family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 P.M Sunday, January 2, 2011, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Rev. Fr. Donald P. Klingler officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Marian may be made to the American Cancer Society or Life Care Center of Plainwell.

Melvin Earl ‘Mel’ Wallace, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on December 24, 2010 at 1:15 pm. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers (Kenneth Wallace, Marvin Wallace and Roland “PeeWee” Wallace). He is survived by his wife, Neva May (Brown) Wallace; three daughters and a son, Tamara (Rick) Jones, Treva (Dave) Darnell, Maverick (Marsha) Wallace and Tonya (Randy) Love; his seven grandchildren, Lisa Darnell, Lance (Alayna) Froelich, Ashley Darnell, Cody Wallace, Casey Wallace, Kaitlin Love and Austin Love; his siblings, Kay, Donald, Wayne, Larry, Sue and Anne; many nieces, nephews and loved ones; and the beloved family pet and loving companion, Daisy May. Mel was born in Valparaiso, Indiana on May 15, 1934 as the first of ten children to Walter Earl and Irene Gertrude (Gott) Wallace. In 1954 he graduated from Kouts High School. After graduating high school he joined the United States Army (3rd armored division) serving two years in Germany. When he returned home he co-owned Dutchmaid Diary with a couple of his brothers, picked up his very well known job title of “the milkman” and where he met the love of his life (Neva May Brown) on his milk route. They were married on August 2, 1958 in Otsego. Later he went to work at Rockwell International, and retired from there in 1972. After his retirement he became an avid birdwatcher, squirrel exterminator and gardener. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles. Mel loved to travel, whether he was taking his whole family or just himself and his wife, he enjoyed international and national travel. He had a passion for helping others, family, friends and neighbors. Friends may meet with his family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Ray Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Christian Neighbors Food Pantry.

Harold W. ’Whiz’ Winter of Otsego went home to be with his Savior Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Rose Arbor Hospice Care after a long courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was born August 3, 1927, in Chicago, IL to William and Emma (Mohr) Winter. Harold graduated from Fenger High in Chicago. He served in the U. S. Army and played French horn and bass in the Army band. He met the love of his life, Ina Ziebutski while playing the bass in the Army band in Ocean City, MD. They were united in marriage in Dover, DE on September 19, 1953 and were blessed with 4 children. After 31 years of service, he retired from Eaton Corporation in 1987. During his retirement, he enjoyed driving cars for local dealerships. Harold was a member of Peace Ev. Lutheran Church. He was an avid Chicago Bears and White Sox fan. He loved playing softball with the church league until he was 62, bowled in various leagues and loved watching his children and grandchildren’s extra-curricular activities. Harold is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ina; his children, Dawn (Paul) Welke of Winona, MN, Andy Winter of Otsego, Cindy (Roger) Commissaris of Portage and Janice (Dave) Rockhoff of Kenosha,WI; 11 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; a sister, Janice (Ernie) Cochran of Allegan; an uncle, Jack Mohr of Allegan; an aunt, Frieda Crabbe of Rockford, IL; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Emma and Ted Patranc and a daughter in law, Amy Winter. Friends may meet Harold’s family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 28 at Peace Lutheran Church, 805 S. Wilmott St., Otsego with Reverends Jason J. Thiel and Joshua Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Donald L. Kling went home to his Savior Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Don was born April 21, 1938, in Otsego, Michigan, to Charles and Ida (Herbst) Kling. After 40 years of service, he retired in 2001 from Hammond Machinery. Surviving are his wife, Shirley; son, Charles; daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Sean Skinner; four granddaughters, Hannah, Molly, Abby and Natalie; also two brothers, Dick (Ann) Kling and Lenard (Pat) Kling; 2 sisters, Caroline Kling and Irene Haas; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters. Friends may meet his family from 5 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego.
